Years ago I viewed a knife called a "Smatchet," and intended to buy one at my first financial windfall. That never came before I forgot my desire for the knife.

Now that the money is available, well you know the story.

Is anyone familiar with that knife; I believe Al Mar made one, and does anyone make a decent one today? No, no substitutes accepted.

How about a website to pick up one of the old ones?

If I get one, I will show it off!

Thanks Oneshooter. Love TX; had a friend Lt. Bruce King, small but tough and wrangly Texan. A patriot who died serving his country in Vietnam.

I can't believe the difference in prices at those links - $130 to $249!

That looks like a neat knife - man it's big! :)

Monstrous piece of eqiupment that one. Pretty cool. There are pictures floating around of British soldiers with those things hanging off of them in leather sheathes, they were issue gear. It would be interesting to find out what their training was with this blade. I do say old chap, anyone for the "two handed Conan chop"?

Not at all. That's a big chunk of steel, and if (heat)treated well, a bargain.

If Dale Sandberg's still crankin', his knives were bargains, too: http://www.edmfknives.com/page3.html
I've purchased three of Dale's knives, and at least two moderators here besides myself have used them extensively with a great deal of satisfaction. Good gear,
amazing value.

I think for $130 it's worth it - that's alot of knife made of good steel. You're always going to pay more the better the steel and heat treatment gets.

They were used by Brits and OSS, the idea was that killing someone with a knife is half mental so give them a big one, also they made it very heavy because german helmets were made to cover most of the back of the neck, so if you missed the back of the neck and hit helmet the weight would knock them down and let you finish the job.
