No intent to start a war about storing mags loaded or unloaded. BUT...

I have always kept all of my mags loaded that way I could just grab 'em and go when I went to the range which was usually every week or two. I decided that since I havn't taken my 10/22s out in a year that I would clean them and oil them to store until ammo is more plentiful, saving what .22lr I do have for my kids rifles.

I decided that I would empty the mags also...and 4 out of 5 BX-25s were locked up:banghead: I could not get them to feed rounds by hand or either rifle. When I finally did get them out the rounds were destroyed just the 1 round on 3 of them but 2 rounds on the first mag. The ammo was Blazer bulk 40gr and M22, 2 mags each. The fifth mag was in the rifle but no round chambred.

Hope it was just a freak thing but wanted to give a heads up to ya'll. I will post some pics of the rounds I got out later
*** m22 i stamped super x. I never noticed that

I only have one which I bought recently, so far it has been great but I don't leave it loaded. I plan on buying a few more.

is the bullet on the left completely separated from the case? i've never seen mags do anything like that.

i keep a couple ten rounders loaded for my 10/22, but not the 25s as i don't really use them much. i'll have to check my tens now.

I have owned 2 since they first came out. most of the time they are left loaded I never have a problem. sounds like a bad ammo problem to me. I know it had to be at least partially the mags fault but that must be some soft lead to deform like that with nothing more than the light spring tension of a 10/22 mag.

Its common knowledge that you NEVER leave a magazine that has a ribbon spring, loaded for any long periods of time.

Keeping the mags loaded DID NOT cause those rounds to be deformed like the picture shows.

Huh?

My Butler Creek, Champion, Eagle, & Ram-line 10/22 mags have sat loaded for sometimes years. Any problems have been with the feed lips cracking (Eagle) or the glued seams separating (Ram-Line), not the springs. Some of my BX-25 mags had been loaded for a few months, I've never noticed any issues with them.

The damage to the rounds was caused by ME. It's a combination of trying to chamber, needle nose pliers and wacking them with a dowel to try to get them UNstuck, the 4 mags that did it have been loaded since 12/16/12

mags

If I plan on leaving a magazine loaded for an extended period of time I only load it most of the way.

I have had an issue with my bx25 mag "nose-diving" the round into the front of the magazine ramp. Since on the 10/22 there really isn't a feed ramp, the magazines themselves have to have their own feed ramps. IMO the feed ramp on the BX25 is too steep/abrupt.

Of course, it only happened when my friend loaded it, and I wonder if he wasn't putting each consecutive rim in front of the previous. I mean, if the rim of the cartridge that was trying to be stripped from the magazine caught on the rim of the cartridge below it, I could see how the result would be a nose dive of sorts.

However, I have never had this issue with my butler creek steel lips mag. And the BX25 has only jammed a few times as a result. And the BX25, you can disassemble to clean whereas the butler creeks you cannot, so for equal money, it is a tossup. Especially if you aren't sure they were loaded properly.

I leave mine unloaded. I dont have a BX 25 but only the 10 rder rotary.
