1995 used 10/22.
Volquartsen hammer.
GM heavy taper 19" bbl.
Victor Titan stock.

Does .4" for five shots at 50 yards. Repeatedly.

Cost? 400 bucks (not counting base,.rings or scope).

Stock fits tight, is rigid.......looks good.
But has a vertical grip, which I can't seem to tolerate.
Bench is fine, carrying it feels horrible to my hand.
Gun also is heavier than I like...........would have been worse w a straight .920 bbl.

That's a good shooter! Very, very good for $400! It's a keeper...don't dump it until you know for sure that the CZ will tune up!

"I really don't want to mess with stock work. Am burned out on messing with stuff."

How about something as simple as removing and replacing two screws? You have a good shooting 10/22 in a stock you don't like and a poor shooting 10/22 in a stock you do like. Swap the good shooting one into the stock you like and put the poor shooting one in the stock you don't like. Then sell or trade the poor shooting one in the stock you don't like.

Not that simple, or I'd have done it LOL.
Best bet is to go with GM 20" sporter bbl in a fingergroove.
Not much wood if inlet for the GM heavy taper.
Seen factory rigs split on sides.

Yeah, it's got a factory bolt too and does that well.
I don't hunt squirrels much anymore. Pineys once in a while.
Got a ton of them at my nearby deer spot. But houses around, so shots would be from deer stands downward.

I haven't really tested it w CCI quiet. Just shot a few and it was a straight pull bolt action ;)

Silly but I've been thinking keep it and just make it a serious boat anchor and add an SWFA SS 6X.

Now I'm no squirrel hunting purist.
I really don't like shooting critters in the head as it uglies them up and that bothers me.
Maybe because I had eye surgery as a kid, I dunno.

Even on squirrels for the pot, I'd pop em in or behind the shoulders.

So a .22 rifle, when not worried about dotting the eye.........was borderline caveman.

Shot plenty with iron sighted handguns when I had young eyeballs.
Now of course I need a scope, or if going handgun, a small dot reflex.

I'd proly go handgun if hunting them for the freezer. Pest removal is more serious and I'd go rifle there.

Here is what I would do:

Kidd barrel in 16.5: $245

Stock: $80
https://www.amazon.com/Hogue-22110-OverMolded-Nylon-920-Barrel/dp/B001TE3DMI

Hammer: $40
https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1004752381/volquartsen-target-hammer-with-bushings-ruger-10-22

Total: $365

This gives a surplus of dollars and new knowledge about your rifle if you haven't worked on it before. I would spend some of the surplus on ammo and some of the surplus on, well...a nice bottle of aiming oil, just don't mix those two!

I’ve found that, for whatever reason, CZ’s require barrel break in. Both my 527 in .204 and the 453 shot really, really badly at first.

Mine was incredibly accurate for a sporter after some judicious cleaning. The internals were slathered with cosmoline or some similar preservative to the point of needing far more than a quick swipe before firing. Once the brown traces ceased and the trigger nut removed, i greased the lugs, polished the bolt internals, and went shooting. I forgot targets that first trip and had not mounted a scope but I did my best with open sights.

Still easily one of my favorite .22s, the CZ now belongs to my 12 year old.

My set up that day shooting into the sun.

Found a legal pad in the Jeep and a Sharpie in my range bag. I couldn’t see the Sharpie lines so I placed the aimpoint over a hole in the backer and shot at the light spot.

At 25 yards, first 5 shots from brand new.

For me, without a scope, well...I was the limiting factor.

I cleaned my CZ and made sure the bore was bone dry.
Fouled it and tried a few non match types. Was not impressed.
Hopefully it just needs shot in.
Figure after 200 rounds it ought to show some improvement.
Halfway there LOL

I will say it depends on what you want.....forgive me but I did not see you talk about it.....do you want an automatic or is bolt ok....or do you want a single shot? A few different choices here. I will say that I have shot other folks 1022's and they are fantastic.....after they have been worked on. I don't know how much they have in them, but I think you can make them shoot on par with anything on the planet.....not sure how much ruger is left in them but they really are amazing.

Out of the box I would say a CZ again, I am a real big CZ fanboi, but I see it as they have earned it. Center fire and rim fire shoot just fantastic....my 527 is a little more picky over my 452, but apples and oranges.

My 542 is really just amazing....it will shoot anything well....talking minute of pop can at 100 yards good.....to the point it is almost automatic. Put it on paper and there is ammo it likes, but really even for small bore silhouette the cheaper stuff is good enough out to 100 off the bench.....get me standing up and like most folks the groups really open up, but we are not talking about the shooters ability but the guns. It is fun to be loading a magazine with golden bullets and shooting them a match....looks are fun, and the looks from guys with the names of guns on their back is really fun.

I would say it really is up to you, out of the box I would say go CZ, from what I have SEEN people still play the ruger lotto when buying the new tacti-cool rimfire. The other thing I have SEEN is the savage seems to punch above its weight.....people really like them at any price point.

I wonder if that is possibly made in left hand??

It is, and, since you are a lefty, there seem to be far more still sitting in the box brand new. The 452 has been replaced but has reached a near cult-like following from CZ owners.

Here were my results from the aforementioned Rimfire Prove It. My scoring was debated to be somewhat higher, either 115 or 116 if a plug were used, scoring is above my pay grade. Either way it shows the accuracy potential of a CZ despite a very average shooter.

Even if a CZ is at the upper limit of your budget, it’s not likely to be a regrettable purchase.

50 yard set up.

As for peppering bunnies w shot.....thats why you dont just shoot em going away. I actually missed one doing that and my buddy was ribbing me pretty hard about it
Told him i was trying to clip it in the head w edge of pattern on the stutter. He called BS. We did good that day and at the end he noticed how nice my rabbits were. None w back legs akimbo. Mine had shot in the head and front shouders. His were all screwed up. His lightbulb came on. It aint about hitting the rabbit.....its about hitting it and having it be edible. Think low brass 5s would be perfect. 7.5s and 6s is just too much. I run 7.5s on doves......instead of 8s. Fave rabbit rig an 870 special field 20 w 21" mod bbl.

20190511_123039.jpg Ruger 10/22 factory barrel, ruger BX trigger $45 , trigger stop screw $ .05, Kidd guide rod spring kit $16 .
Polish your bolt till it shins like glass. CCI STANDARD VELOCITY ammo. Photo at 50 yds. Four 10 shot groups Blazer ammo
CCI STANDARD VELOCITY is more accurate.

I want a repeater, Semi-auto or bolt action. No benchrest gun or single shot however. I want one light enough to carry so am looking for a balance between accuracy and practical.

Keyfer 55 very impressive.

Once the monsoons end here and things dry out I will dig my 10/22 out of safe and do some shooting with it. I have a scope somewhere for it that I will put back on. I have never been impressed with this gun but I give a workout with different brands of ammo and see what the results are.

Our favorite LGS is listed as a CZ dealer so I will have to make a visit there soon. Thanks for the suggestions.
