Hello All,

I am asking for assistance in finding a Smith & Wesson Model 36 or Model 60 here in Maine. My father is retiring from our local police department after 31 years of service, and I would like to get a small J-Frame and have it engraved with his Badge, Rank & Name and dates of service, all in a presentation box as a very practical retirement gift. I have so far been unsuccessful in finding a Used J-Frame Smith and Wesson and would like to know if any Mainers on here have seen anything in their travels. Also, I have found a fairly new Rossi revolver that is priced at $295. If for some reason I am unable to find the S&W, does anyone have any opinions on the Rossi in .38 Special? Thanks All!!

Ryan,
Not sure exactly where in 'central Maine' you are but have you tried the following:

Maine Military Supply (207) 989-6783
Crosby's Gun Shop (207) 299-6687
Van Raymond's Outfitters (207) 989-6001
Or, though very unlikely:
Jimi's Trading (207) 989-6001

These are all my Bangor Brewer area sources. I wish you the best of luck in your search, sounds like a wonderful presentation you have planed for a very honorable individual.

I don't know where you are in Maine, but the last time I went to Maine on a vacation, i stopped in the Kittery Trading Post and was pleasantly surprised by their selection and quantity of guns.

The other alternative is to find the gun online and have it shipped to your local FFL.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I am still looking around and will post the results if I am successful in finding a M36. If I cannot find a M36 I may look at the LCP, as a friend has one for sale at a reasonable price. Have any of you ever built a display case for a pistol such as the LCP or M36? If so, how did you do it? I'd like something with a foam/felt lining and a lockable design. Thanks again! I'm in the Augusta-Waterville area, by the way.
