Narrowed it down to two at my local shop.

Kimber Custom TLE II or Springfield Loaded Stainless.

Kimber is slightly used and 150 dollars less.

This will be a range gun and rarely if ever carried.

A custom 1911 builder told me a Springfield TRP is the best 1911 off the shelf, and the Loaded was a good second. If your just going to plink with it, save you some money and get a Rock Island Tactical . I carry a Les Baer, wanted a plinker I could take to the woods and not worry. Now I'm not going to say this sub $500 gun will out do my $1800 Baer but dang. 15 yards 8 shots 1 ragged hole. You will have to get a different mag then what comes with it.

I have a Springfield loaded and have a Kimber Custom Tactical. I would go with the TLE as you get front strap checkering and it might already be broken in.
Read these threads about my range visits with my: Springfield and my Kimber.

I have the Springfield Loaded Stainless and absolutely love it. I have an aversion to Kimber. I think they are way overpriced and more of a marketing created 'cult' brand. I won't own one. But neither will I own a Glock, Harley Davidson, etc. I'm just not a follower. That's just my opinion, and will most certainly won't be the opinion of others...but that's okay, we are all free to have an opinion. :)

I've got a Kimber and two Springers. I used to own another Kimber, too (sold it like an idiot). I like all of them and I think you'll be happy either way. I am also willing to bet you can't own just one. I'm planning my next two 1911 purchases already.

That makes two of us! I've only had a 1911 for about 8 months and I already have a few new ones on the list. It's like an addiction!

Springfield, if for no other reason than a lifetime warranty and great Customer Service, I wan't mention Kimbers lousy warranty, CS, and inferior weapon. Can you tell I like the Springers?

I currently own 11 1911a1 type pistols and have owned others. I shoot THOUSANDS of rounds of .45acp every year in competitions and practice. I do not own a Kimber currently, although I have in the past. Take that as you wish.
