help me find an AK...

Well first off Merry Christmas to everyone...

I'm headed to a gunshow here in Cincinnati this weekend and am hoping to pick up an AK for under $500/550... Now if that will be possible with skyrocketing prices on AKs and ARs I don't know but I'm seeing WASRs around $400 online so I'm hoping I can find something before decides only criminals can have semi-auto weapons. Now I don't know much about AK's, I've read up on the WASR's a little bit and seen a lot of good reviews for the price, yes I know about the mag wobble and sometimes canted sights but I mean it's a $350-400 AK, I would expect that... I was also wondering what other AK's are in this $500 maybe $550 price range and what to look for... I'm willing to buy new or used, would probably prefer to buy a better model used as they are AK's but just trying to see what's out there... Anyone seen what the going rate for WASR's are at gunshows lately or have any suggestions.. I prefer underfolders or pistol grip fixed stocks, not a big fan of sidefolders, hunting style stocks or the kind with the drop down handle on the foregrip....

Its a seller's market right now. No way u can find cheap AKs bec of the scare factor. Everyone is holding on to what they have. Most are buying the Romanian G kits even those went up. Then buy the Noduk receiver and compliance parts and you are set to have a great AK.

A local gun store had a GP WASR-10 for $649. It sold the next day.

I'm not saying rip someone off, I'm saying there are just plenty of folks out there that need $$$ right now.

don't really know anyone that's out of a job and don't know anyone with an AK either so that kind of negates that option but good idea, I'll check around on a few gun forums and see if I can find a deal on a used one... still hoping to find a good deal at the gun show tho, should have bought one 6 months ago...

You will never find an AK at a gunshow cheaper than what you will find on line. Gunshows are generally no place for bargains.

Correct, the only economical 7.62x39 rifles I found at the last gun show were SKS rifles around $200 - $250.

I cannot find any AKs for sale in my part of the country. I found one SKS for sale. It is a Russian one. They are asking $500.00!!!

I found a Romanian wasr 10 in a pawn shop last month its the only one I have seen around my parts so I snatched it up!! Its used and I paid $490 for it! Its a little more than I wanted to pay but I knew that the price was only gonna go up on them so I went ahead and bought it!!

Mr. Legend, I'll be there Sunday. A good used AK will be hard to find cheap, but $500 can buy quite a nice firearm at a show. Look for it to walk in, don't bother with whats on the tables they have already been priced above the market. It's still possible to find a Mak variant for that much, I passed up two at the last show in Dayton.

well I know I'm looking at bottom of the barrel AKs, maybe I can catch someone needing some $$$ at the show, might have to start looking other options like a SKS...

well I hit the gunshow today about 10:30 or so and was fighting the huge crowd to see as many AK's I could find and found what I believe to be a good deal, I picked up a Century International WASR with 2 hi cap mags and a leather sling for 509 plus tax so it should be like $540... I checked the mag wobble on it as it had been converted to accept hi-cap mags and there was virtually none, very tight lockup, nice wood furniture and the front sight wasn't canted at all... Stupid background thing put me on a 3 day delay as it always does but I'll get some pics up once I pick it up...
