All you rifle action gurus out there please take a look at this one and see if you can help me identify it.

It has a barrel stamped LH Brown and is in .270. I suspect Mauser action but I don't know enough about them to tell!

I named the pic mauser action but I was only guessing.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Large ring Mauser (-98 pattern) with an interesting safety conversion and a turned-down bolt. Measuring the distance between the action screws will tell for certain, but I suspect it's a long-action 98 (rather than an intermediate-length action, a la the Yugo -48s) if it's chambered in 270.

Thanks for the help rbernie!

Could you give me an idea of the distance between action screws to determine long vs short??

Ever hear of a barrel maker L H Brown?

Thanks again.

L.H. Brown might not have made the barrel, he might have been the gunsmith who installed it. Might have made the safety, too; I have never seen one like it.

The scope mount is a Leupold Adjusto-mount of the 1950s or early 1960s. The Tasco scope is much more recent.

Action is probably a real '98 Mauser, the '48 Yugos have only been coming out of storage the last few years.

Gentlemen I sincerely appreciate your help.

I am a total new bee with mausers.

Now I can determine exactly which variant this one is based on.

Thanks again!
