Our Sheriff's dept. has an officer that is retiring next month, and the guys from the department are trying to pitch in to get him an OD Green 1911, and they are going to have his badge laser-engraved on some alumagrips.

They originally wanted a Springfield GI, but apparently Imbel is having issues, and Springfield hasn't been able to get any frames or slides since the beginning of the year. All of my distributors are completely OUT of all GI models, regardless of finish.

One officer thought he saw S&W offering one in OD Green, but I have seen neither hide nor hair of it. The only other one I can think of is Rock Island Armory, but I can't find any company information regarding them, and none of my distributors list them.

Refinishing is an avenue that they'd rather not go unless there's no other choice.

Anybody have any ideas, or any information about other entry-level 1911s that come in an OD Green finish?

Wes

I don't think RIA makes an OD pistol, but here is the company website:

Only other factory option OD 1911's I can think of off hand are the Wilson CQB, and Rock River guns. Both well out of the "entry level" category you specified.

CDNN Sports is advertising a whole series of Springfield 1911 pistols, but you'd have to call for prices. I think they get the O.D. color by staining regular Parkerizing. Considering your intentions I'd contact S.A. and ask them how they do the finish, and if "a" gun might be available, or if not would they refinish one if you got it.

If you have to refinish it, you may want to consider Duracoating it. I've duracoated a number of firearms with excellent results.

Friday, I ordered a RIA 1911A1 GI that may well get a Duracoat treatment.

Thanks much for the help, guys. I've strongly recommended that he get a used one (I know where one is) and have it duracoated in OD.

Much appreciated!
