The case cannot be saved for sure.
I'm using the Lee carbide die set.
Can I deprime a live primer?
What should I do?
Thank you.

correct me if i misunderstand, but i think he doesnt want to throw away a potentially explosive object. i dont think its a big deal tho.

toss it in a campfire and you will get a small pop. thats about it. or stick it in a vice and heat it with a blowtorch and pop it. point it in a safe direction cause the primer may fire out. wear a face shield and a jacket and gloves, but i dont think even all that is needed. justr keep your bare skin away from it when it goes and all will be good.

id just spray some wd40 in the case and throw it away. unless it was a really rare case and worth alot.

Thank you for the replies.
I am not trying to save anything.
I just didn't want to throw away something that's not completely safe.

If you can get the decapping pin inside the case, then just gently push it out. Just don't do it fast, as impact is what sets primers off.

Of course, wear safety glasses whenever you're reloading, or working around any machine, as you only get one set of eyes.

Hope this helps.

don't worry about wd-40 or oil or anything else; the primer would probably still work. Just throw it away unless you burn your own trash then give as much safe distance from the barrel as an empty spray paint or aresol can in the trash.

Guys, y'all have your panties in a bigger wad than the whole TSA after the lady got caught actually breast feeding an alleged baby... Oh, the horror...

Pitch it in the trash. Not in YOUR trash compactor, or down your garbage disposal. Just in the trash. If you burn your trash, try not to stand in the barrel or within 18" of the fire. If your trash is picked up, big deal - if they're not worried about paint or bug spray cans, etc., etc., then they ain't gonna be worried about a little old primer.

:)

Bogie is right. (Humorously right, I have to add - "don't stand in the barrel!".) Nothing to worry about if you simply toss it in the trash. Whether it ends up in your own burn pile or the county dump it won't hurt a thing even if it goes off.

I just burn mine with the other garbage. The rounds just go "pop"....even the shotshells with powder and shot...just "pop". But :uhoh: NEVER stand IN the barrel! :D (Suppose you could leave it in a public restroom....:what: well, maybe not.)

Do NOT try to de-prime it

Do NOT try to push it out with a depriming die. Not worth the risk. Yes, it likely will work OK, but why do something risky when there are safer alternatives?

#1 option would be to discard at a gun club that has a bin for bad ammo just like this and let them dispose of it. #2 option would be to toss it in the general trash as it is hardly possible that it will ever be ignited.

I don't like the propane "burn, baby, burn" idea as it has potential to launch the primer. The burn barrel would be better, especially thrown in underneath some other trash.

If it will chamber put it in the gun and snap it. If it won't chamber, remove the decapping stem from your die and work it into the die till it will chamber then snap it.Of course in a safe direction.

Throw it in the trash, but if your worried, take it to your local range, and pitch it in the misfire container.
