I'm in the middle of my first rebarrel job on my AR. Its been fun so far- lets just say that I would never worry about the taper pins on the FSB ever walking out

Anyhow, I have the FSB off, the gas tube roll pin out, but the gas tube seems like its almost welded into the FSB. I need to get it out because I want to reuse the FSB and I'm going to be installing a DCM type free float tube so I need to install a different gas tube. I also want to get the gas tube out without damaging it if possible in case I want it for future projects.

Anyone have any tips or hints on how to get this bugger out?

Heat up the FSB with a hobbyist propane torch, or order an AR gas tube removal tool from Brownells. You could also try very gently squeezing with parallel jaw pliers with jaws padded with leather or coarse felt.

Try a few drops of penitrating oil on the outside of the gas tube. Let it set for a day or two and see if you can very gently rotate the tube a little. I used a pair of channel locks with electrical tape and put the front sight/barrel in a sturdy vice. Go slow

Had this happen several times in the past. I grab the gas tube with some small pliers and tap on the pliers with a hammer. You might end up with a few scratches on the gas tube but it who cares.

DougW has the right answer. I used that method hundreds of times while I was with the D.O.E.

For $10/ea in replacement cost, I generally just leave the tube in the FSB and use a new one.
