BIL passed away, while cleaning up his basement, found this. Some kind of tin of Com Block 7.62 ammo. Dont want to open it up to see but dont know which 7.62 ammo it is, x39 or x54R or something else. Has a wood crate with it too. Contains 1260 rounds? _1050662-b.jpg _1050664-b.jpg Anybody know what it is? Pics below.

FYI this is good for 3 gunners or others who aren't allowed to use any magnetic projectiles. Yes it is corrosive despite the good brass cases and good projectiles.

I used to use windex, but really all you need is water. What makes it corrosive are the salts left behind, and a good douching with water will get it out. finish it off with compressed air and oil, and it's fine.

Funny thing is. Back in the 90s/early 2000s when all the new surplus was coming in I'd see shooters at the range shooting corrosive ammo. While talking I'd ask if they knew how to clean it. If I mentioned hot water on a couple patches first I'd get squint eyes telling me water will rust guns so no way they are putting it in their barrels. If I said squirt some Windex(pretty blue water and sudsy ammonia) I'd get OH YAH, thanks. So "Windex" of any style is my default telling shooters on cleaning corrosive ammo.

I know all you need is water, but I still use Windex. Or whatever cleaner is under the sink.
Aside from alcohol or ammonia speeding up the reaction (technically; not sure it really makes a difference), it's not always the cleanest ammo and that seems to help break up the residue.
Just makes the normal cleaning afterward quicker.

Yup Yugoslavian 7.62x39. Have 3 cases myself.

Primer (salt) residue is what anything corrosive. As long as it has water in it, it'll flush em out.

Clean with Ballistol.

It is 100 years old,and was designed/created by the Germans for so many purposes that you wont believe its uses.

But yes to Windex anytime !
