Was at my LGS yesterday and they had the new Henry .243 and .308 lever guns on display. I handled the .243 and it didn't feel too awkward but it is heavy. I don't know the weight, need to look it up, but it isn't a lightweight. They utilize a detachable metal box magazine instead of a tube but that makes the receiver is a bit boxier. At least the magazine is metal and not plastic. Not as sleek as a lever gun is traditionally. Drilled and tapped for scope mounts. I like lever guns but these new models didn't do much for me.

Just checked Henry's website and they list the weight at 7lbs. Definitely felt heavier than that.

Sounds like the Long Ranger models that they've been advertising for a while now. I've not seen one yet, nor have many others. I've read some reports from gunwriters who have had a chance to fire one. Very similar to the old Browning BLR. I never found a use for the Browning and don't see one for this either.

I handled one at Cabelas. "Long Ranger" I think right? Anyway, I had the same opinion. Heavier than I want and not the best handling either. But I'm spoiled. I've had a Win. 94 for over 30 years now and there's never been a better handling lever gun made IMO.

Although still not quite as good handling as my 94, I prefer the Browning BLR to the Long Ranger.
