i believe the "reduce your charge when you change any component" deal is if you are at, or near the top of the load chart/data. if you are in the middle of the chart, not so much. use your better judgement to decide.

i am currently loading 3.5 grains of bullseye, behind 158 gn swc bullets, in 357 magnum cases. i am not experiencing any position sensitivity with this load.

What issues do you think it will have? The load is not reduced....I have loaded thousands of 10 gr with no issues.

It will have a larger ES and probably substandard accuracy unless he tips the gun for every shot.

A casefull is better than not a casefull, usually.

The load I recommended is a standard load. It is very accurate and requires no "tipping"....Loading manuals are full of accurate handgun loads that don't pack the cases full and don't require you to hold the gun in a certain position for accuracy.

There should be very little difference between the old 2400 and the new. A friend that was a chemist told me a few years ago when asked about this told me that the powder has to have the same burn rate or it would not be called 2400. There should only be a lot to lot variation.

However, the above does not take into consideration how the powder was stored or other things that can degrade performance.

I hope you shoot it over a chony and post the differences.

h110 is just as good as 2400. i use both in 44 mag.
I used H110 for quite a few years before I tried 2400. Wasn't long after trying 2400 that I won't touch H110 anymore. The problem with H110 is it has a very narrow range of use, 2400 isn't as limited.

Thanks RC, just got a jug to use in 30-30, didn't see any loads for 40, just wondered. It meters like 231. I'm going to try some 170 PB with it instead of unique.

I think you will like the results with 2400 over unique in the 30-30 with Cast bullets. You will generate more consistent pressures with the slower powder.

Lately I have been using H4895 in the 30-30 with Cast bullets but in the past I have used SR-4759 for the same application. SR-4759 is a very bulky powder in the same burn rate range as 2400 (maybe a little slower) and was designed for loading reduced rifle loads of all types. Nothing wrong with using 2400 though because it can serve double duty as a magnum pistol powder too.
