Here comes the Judge

American Rifleman had a review some months back.

They had a closeup (8" photo) of the cylinder. The ejector star looked awful -- like something had been chewing on it. My wife, no gun person at all, even noticed it.

It is a vary narrow purpose gun, home defense in a small house. I prefer a .38, personally. In my small house, I can point shoot and hit fine, don't even have a laser grip or anything.

Some have the mistaken opinion they're going to go duck hunting with this thing. Well, even were there steel shot loads in .410, this thing ain't real effective past 10 feet. It has absolutely NO outdoor uses IMHO. If I need to kill a snake, I can do it with a normal solid bullet, not that hard to take a head shot on a snake 10 feet away. If the snake is moving, I don't need to shoot it, OR, it presents a more fun, challenging target. The judge is so friggin' big and bulky, personally, I don't wanna tote something that big an ineffective around in the woods. Rather have a nice medium frame .357 magnum, no shot loads, either, just mild .38s and heavy magnums to do whatever job I need doing.

The craftsmanship is not very good:confused:
I have seen many of their shooters and I have a look a like of the Beretta 92 it is a fine pistol and never a complaint about its functioning.

I'll have to agree it is an up close and personal shooter for sure. The 45 is better in many conditions than the wimpy 38, and I'd rather shoot a snake with shot than a single bullet any day.

I lived in rattle snake haven (lots of rocks and crannys) snake shot is the best thing for them, if it was me Id want that (in 45) rather then 410.

This is a good video to observe the damage that can be done by this weapon

Here is the thing that I don't understand about this revolver, Taurus as well as numerous gun magazine authors who reviewed it have made the claim that the reason its called the "judge" is because many judges have chosen to carry it under their robe. Where is the documented proof on this? I realize that judges need anonymous protection from the standpoint of safety and security, but there has to be some objective data on this. First off all, not many judges are very vocal about what they carry under their robe, where did this assertion come from. Nothing against Taurus, I own a Tracker and a 24/7, but I want to know whether this is a marketing ploy or real data.

I like and own Taurus, too. But, I think the whole danged idea and gun is a marketing ploy, personally. Judging by the popularity of the thing, Taurus can't make 'em fast enough, I'd say they have one HELL of a marketing department...:D Hey, if you like it, I'm sure it's good, well, for what it is. I don't know if there are any more rattlers anywhere in the country than coastal south Texas, toss in moccasins (saw one last weekend teal hunting), but I've gotten along for 55 years without a Judge. I've shot a few with .22LR hollowpoints, most of the ones I've shot, actually. I've shot a few with shotguns, a few with .22 rifles. They all died. I really don't have a need to shoot a snake if its not in my yard or under my feeder (shot one with my NAA mini under my feeder once) where I need to get to fill it. Most times, I'll just walk around the snake. He has as much right to be here as I do. Rattlers are pretty good eatin', though. I've fried up a few big'ns. :D

Anyway, if I need a .410/.45 I have my 10" contender barrel. I've actually shot some informal trap with that thing. You gotta be really quick!:D Once past 20 yards that clay bird is GONE. That gun has a full choke that screws on the end, actually pretty useful if you can get close enough to small game.

They are not allowed into CA at all, I have heard today at a gun dealer in the town I am at. They are considered a shot gun LOL...

They are a 3" shot gun in the world of ATF

From what I have seen, the accuracy with .45 Colt is pretty bad, even for a Taurus.

I wouldn't own a Taurus. I feel they are junk.

Judges with Judges? Bull-lone-y

It's those know-it-all gun mag writers who are showing you that they don't know-it-all.

That's the same kind of fuzzy thinking that made the quotes about the Henry rifle as being the rifle you load on Sunday and shoot all week. That was the Spencer. Now think about this. A Henry held about 13 cartridges. A Spencer held 7. One for each day of the week. Get it? One for each day of the week.

I know lots of judges, and none of them carry, let alone for the most part know how to use a gun. Another thing. How is it that the gun which was just introduced - got to be in all those judge's hands?

As I say, Bull.... You fill in the rest, this is The High Road!

The Doc is out now.

Taurus is a Brazilian company. I think the judges carrying it are Brazilian judges, not American ones. I don't have any proof, but thats what the writings on it I have read lead me to believe.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I ain't gettin' rid of mine. My 66 4" is the most accurate .357 revolver I've ever owned, more accurate with .38s in fact than my .38s! It'll shoot 1" 25 yard 6 shot clusters all day long.

The problem with the judge is the HUGE cylinder. I have a TC contender barrel in .45/.410 and best it'll do with .45 Colts is 8 moa. It's a 1.5 moa gun with a .30-30 barrel installed, but I guess you would see the accuracy of that .45 and decide all TCs are junk. Fine and good, ignorance is bliss.

Does this remind anybody else of the Thunder-5? I think that had horrible accuracy too...but I could definitely see its use in snake country!
