Just went to the range today to try out my rough rider. It was a joy to shoot. Shot aguila, mini mags, meateaters and browning hot rounds. It was amazing how much more bang the browning made even only rated for 1450fps, louder than the cci meateaters rated at 1800 out of my ruger lcp lite . Guy next to me had a .380 I’d put the noise of the browning to my ears similar to that. The guy on other side had a 44mag and 357 mag and those made mine and the 380 sound like pop guns obviously. Overall I enjoyed the heritage. Not one miss fire and great fun specially for $150

I just filled out mty rebate form where the 4.5 inch RR I got will have onlt cost 69.00 plus 6.5 salestax after rebate. I have not got to the range yet but I have shot them in the past

Just what is the appeal about loud?

I don't understand that as well, some people feel the same way around rimfire in general. Say it is not like shooting a "real" gun. Ok, whatever is all I have.

If you can't hit the target with a rimfire you sure as hell are not going to hit it with a center fire.....but the recoil and noise is more Macho.

i have an older hrr and had a newer one, both bought n.i.b. online. the older one was more solid and i sold off the newer one. everyone should have a single-action, rimfire revolver: plinking, learning, teaching, outdoorsing… while i prefer rugers, a n.i.b. hrr priced well under $100 is a steal, just buy in-person so you can find one that feels better made to you.

I don’t know I’ve never been fond of targeting with a noisy gun, that’s for hunting. Just making a comparison I guess. Whatever type rounds that 44 mag had shooting my .22 looked like it was a lot more fun and honestly alot more shots on target because of no recoil. A friend of mine always says anything under .45acp isn’t a real handgun. He can do what he wants.

I have two of them. They're neat little shooters, and hard to put down once in hand. Strangely, I enjoy the 4.75" one more than I do the Ruger NM Single Six I also have. The 3.5" birdshead one I have gave me some light strikes on the second time out (of only two outings so far) with Remington GBs, the only ammunition I had with me at the time. I don't remember any the first outing, nor what brand of ammo was used, but it wasn't GBs.

I had one for quite a while. I recently acquired a Ruger Single Six, so I sold the Rough Rider to a friend who was just being his days of shooting. In my opinion, the Rough Rider is a great value, I found it to be worth more to me than what I paid for it.

Do you like the ruger better?

I got one that was intended for my brother. I ended up keeping it due to the peculiarities of cross state pistol transfers. It pairs with my Henry lever action. I did get the 22 mag cylinder. In the limited shooting I’ve done with the magnum they are slightly more accurate than the 22 LR loads of various types I’ve tried.

If you compare the RR to the SS you will be disappointed with your RR.
They are NOT an apples to apples kind of thing. They are not even intended to be direct competition in the market. Which is why Ruger introduced the Wrangler.
The RR is a low cost gun that IMO gives a great value for the money spent.
Love it for what it is.
I have several of both and enjoy them all.
The SS is obviously a higher quality gun, and the price reflects that fact, but that doesn't effect the enjoyment you can have with your new RR.

Oh yea I was thinking the wrangler, it was $40 more out here but didn’t look much better or feel much better to me but I know it’s Rugers cheap model.

I bought one with the rebate. Ordered online, and what got delivered was a turd. Now they are working multiple mechanisms to refund the money for me to buy another one… too late for the rebate though. And I was using gift cards so that’s another mess that takes time apparently. I’m glad y’all enjoy your guns. Makes me a bit less leery about trying to order another one.
