Herters Ammo?

Its basically Cabela's store brand, I shoot quite a bit of the 9mm and .40S&W never had any issue. They have some steel case stuff but I don't care because I don't reload.

I've shot Herters ammo in 38 special and 45 acp. Out of 100 rounds in both caliber, they all went bang. Accuracy was fine for plinking. Didn't dirty my guns up to bad. I didn't shoot that much of it though obviously. Seems fine for the price, but I've read some really bad reviews. I'd buy it again though.

Herters was an old brand name of products a long time ago (I have some Herters reloading dies for example) that went out of business. I'm guessing someone bought rights to the name is is just rebranding Russian ammo under it.

Just got some Herters .45 ammo in, 50 rounds for $17 at Cabelas. Waiting on the weather to get pretty again so I can try some in my 1911.

I bought a few hundred rounds of the steel cased 45acp few years back from Cabelas. I would say it is sooty, I used to get a puff a dark after each round. The steel had some clear coat and that would rub off in the normal places. Looks like they are now selling aluminum cased rounds also. I'd say Herters is a decent low priced round. I had a few more FTF, stove pipes, FTE than normal but no failure to bang that I can remember.

I only have experience with the .44 mag stuff. Was not loaded very hot. But was fine accuracy wise and wasn't very dirty. It expanded pretty badly though. As you would expect.

years ago Cabela's bought the Herter's catalog divison (the last of the Herter's empire) so now it's just a house brand The brass select is US made in the Fiocchi plant.

What he said.

I believe there are two different Herters.

The SELECT stuff is made by Fiocchi which is top-notch.

The regular Herters appears to be made by Wolf. It's steel cased and inexpensive. I've used it in my AK47 and it functions just fine.

I've used a lot of the 7.62x39 in my AK and never had a FTF, FTE, etc... Right now it's on sale for $3.79 a box of twenty, and I'm definitely buying more.

Bought one of the spam cans of 9mm, and it shot pretty good in my M9. No failures and decent accuracy. I was content with it for practice ammo.

Can't make it work in a Browning Hi-Power, however. Neither mine or a buddy's H-P will even chamber it.

Herters 7.62x39 and .223 is re boxed Wolf ammo. Those are the only two rounds of Herters ammo I shoot right now and all were head stamped Wolf.
