I own a few S&Ws, so I feel kind of stupid having to ask this question. I have two model 66s, one is a 66-2 I bought new back in the mid 1980s, and a 66-5 I got in 2004, a model 10, and a model 29. My question is, what frame type's are these, J,K,L,?.
Also, what does this frame classification mean?

Small frames
I Frame-Smallest S&W hand ejector revolver. frame-mostly used for .32's Out of production
J Frame-An improved I frame, made so a small revolver could chamber .38 Special
Magnum J Frame-A very slightly larger J frame made so a small revolver can take the pressure of .357 Magnum
Medium Frames
K Frame-Originally designed for the .38 Special. Was upgraded to handle .357 Magnum in the 1950's
L Frame-Stronger (note I did not say improved) than a K frame. Came along in the 1980's to answer complaints of K frame shooters who experienced cracked forcing cones on K frame magnums when shooting signicant amounts of light bullet (125gr and less) full power magnum loads.
Large Frame
N Frame-originally designed for the .44 Special cartridge. Has been used for the development of the .357, .44, & .41 Magnum cartridges.
Extra Large Frame
X Frame- Used for the .500 and .460 revolvers.

Your M66's and M10 are K frames. your M29 is an N frame.
