Hi-Point C9 Experiences

I bought one for grins and giggles. I kept it a couple of years, and put a couple thousand rounds through it. I had a total of six malfunctions in that time, four of which came out of one box of "range reloads." I forget the specifics of the other two. I got bored with it, other guns came along, and I eventually sold it for more than I paid for it.

I didn't really think it was too much uglier than most any other plastic semi, but oddly enough, it felt great in my hand. It probably could have used something to make the grip a little "tackier?" They were pretty slick, but not so bad I had trouble shooting it.

Top heavy...yes. Awkward to carry? I don't know. I never had a holster for it, but I don't suppose it would have been any more awkward than any other gun it's size. About the only thing I really didn't care for was the safety, which never really felt secure to me. One thing for a range toy, another totally for a carry gun. If I had carried it, I probably would have done so with an empty chamber.

I have only handled one Hi-Point. It was at my favorite LGS after the silliness started. Top heavy and ugly, but every guy at that LGS had one and they all admitted they were impressed with their reliability.
As I was handling the gun another guy in the store was staring at it like it was a smokin’ hot chick at a topless bar. He asked “Are you going to buy that one?”
I said “No.” and handed it back to the salesman.
The salesman said “We gave a dozen in stock, not to worry.”
I stopped in the next day to pick up the part I ordered and was told they sold all 12 Hi-Points the day before. I didn’t consider buying one because we have a “gun a month” law here and I had just picked up a gun the week before.

If I ever encounter another one for sale I think I will buy one just to try one out.

the c9 is a step above a zip gun; its ugly and every time i pulled the trigger it went bang.

They are so good gun shops in Illinois can't sell them.
Yes, when I retired I worked part-time at a mom & pop gunshop in Illinois for a few years. They have a published list of guns not permitted to be sold in the state. As I recall one or more Hi Point models were on the no-no list.
