Standard Hi Point thread disclaimer: if you're here to tell me how lousy the Hi Point is, please save your keystrokes -- I'm not interested. :)

I recently picked up the 995 9mm carbine. On a whim, I got the version with the red-dot sight. After fiddling with the red-dot for a bit, I decided to see how well I liked the aperture sights. I noticed that any time you remove the rear sight (aperture, scope, or red-dot), you have to remove the receiver shroud. This is because the underside of the shroud has two small removable metal pieces which serve as anchors for the allen-head screws that secure the rear sight assembly (or rails) from above. Now it wasn't exactly a huge PITA to remove that shroud, but it occurred to me that I could save probably 1/2 the time of switching from iron to red-dot and back just by securing those little anchors to the inside of the shroud. Has anyone here done this? I was just going to use some super glue. Any reason I shouldn't?

After I took off the red-dot and put on the rear aperture sight, I practiced mounting the carbine and aquiring the target. I was pleased to find that the 995 lined up very quickly easily with my natural point of aim. I've never really shot with a rear aperture/front ring-post before, so I'm not sure what the sight picture should look like. When I'm focusing on the front post, what I see is the front ring circumscribed just slightly by the fuzzy rear aperture, so that there was a uniform gap around the outside of the front hood and inside of the rear aperture. Is the point of this type of sight alignment to center the front ring inside the rear, and line the target up on top of the post? If that's the point, I think it's a pretty nifty sighting system.

My last question: it's possible with just the tip of my finger to tilt the rear aperture so that it's completely vertical, or tiltled slightly back toward the rear (about 15 degrees I'd guess). Is there supposed to be that much play? I intend to leave it vertical when I sight it in this week.
