I succesfully removed the magazine disconnect safety last night only to have a heavier trigger. ***? Seriously. ***? The pull has notably less of that gritty felling I was looking to get rid of. Great. Trigger now breaks clean and crisp like a single action should. Outstanding. The problem is it feels like it’s a pound or two heavier than before the removal. Is this a perception thing, or is it possible the removal of the magazine disconnect safety can actually make the trigger pull heavier? Any thoughts from the Hi-power guys?

You might check and make sure nothing is binding up and everything is seated properly. Sometimes the trigger return spring can get off-center during reassembly or maybe the transfer bar isn't totally seated back in it's pocket in the trigger assembly. Just play around with it. If you're technically savvy enough to remove the magazine disconnect, you can diagnose this problem with a little study.

I was under the impression that the main reason for removing the magazine disconnect was to remove the grittyness, not necessarily lower the pull poundage.

Take off the slide. Pull the trigger. The trigger lever rides in a channel on the right side of the frame.

Be sure the trigger lever returns below the frame completely.

Sometimes removing the magazine disconnect allows the trigger return spring to not completely lower the trigger lever.

I found it necessary to bend the front of the trigger spring downward to be sure of contact with the frame.

Just be sure that you're not rubbing the trigger lever against the slide rather than underneath the slide.

Also check that the sear lever moves freely.

The trigger return spring looked fine and the level was definitely seated properly. The take-up is the same, it’s only at the point when the trigger breaks. It breaks very clean, but feels like it takes more effort to make it break.

Is it possible that the grit and creep gradually built up the pull weight before it broke and now with the disconnect removed the full weight of pull is apparent all at once?
