I am looking for a well-made, lined, preferably flap holster for a very nice 6" nickel M29, and my usual source (El Paso Saddlery) really doesn't have one I like other than a shoulder holster, which may be what I wind up with. I would really like to browse other makers holsters, but I haven't been keeping up with who's in business still, and who isn't, and which new makers are out there. Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated!
Cheers,
George J.

I don't know if we'll be able to cover all your needs. I'll concentrate on the flap part because that is the oddest part of your requirements ...

I use and enjoy El Paso Saddlery, Bob Mernickle, Purdy Gear, and others, but so far have never seen anything better made than Milt Sparks. Their 200AW was, if I am remembering it correctly, designed by Elmer Keith for carrying a Model 29 under a coat. It is not a typical flap holster, but rather has a kind of "ear" to protect the rear sight and hammer. It is my absolute favorite for on-the-belt carry of a big revolver.

I heard about CS issues with Simply Rugged and got 2 Diamond D chest holsters with flaps. Awesome, beautiful holsters.

Wow! Thanks to all of you for some superb pointers! I have seen several that could fit the bill, but I just have to decide, now - I will let you guys know which way I go, but this is the quality stuff I was looking for.
Hand salute!

My Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster made for my 6" GP100 also fits my 6" Colt King Cobra perfectly. Sorry, I only have a pic of the GP100 with the holster.

I recently bought a Simply Rugged Cattleman holster for a Colt SAA. The holster arrived within a month, and was expertly crafted, as I suspected it would be; however, the weight of the leather was disconcertingly light. I contacted Rob with my concern (though more a question, as another Cattleman I bought years ago was much stouter) but had resolved to keep the holster for all its other qualities and as I am not a high speed guy. Rob told me to send it back, and he would make a new holster of heavier stock, and asked for a ten dollar bill to cover his shipping. Within a couple of weeks, I had my new holster, similarly expertly crafted but of double-weight leather with a smooth surface inside and out. The holster is more than I expected and I could not be more happy with it. Simply Rugged holsters are awesome and Rob Leahy is a stand up guy.

That hammer protective flap is actually a "Hank Sloan" holster and yes Elmer Keith USED those . Bucheimer was first to produce a line of holsters that used that design and called it a "Hank Sloan: speed holster. Hank Sloan was a well known old school LEO that helped form FBI firearm training .
