Hello everyone, I just got a 1956 R-101 sentinel, and just took it out to the range today. It's a 3 inch barrel nickel plated gun. The accuracy of the gun itself is great, it groups better than I need it to. The problem is the sights.

There is no adjustment screw in this model, you have to tap the rear sight left of right, and it's hard to do it accurately without going too far the other side. Is there an upgraded sight available for this gun?

It's also shooting high, which could be helped with a lower rear blade. All my online searching just finds me replacement OEM parts. The gun is more accurate than what the sights are letting me shoot. Any help is appreciated.

PS: picture attached.

That's a very sweet little revolver. I've been keeping my eyes open for one. I don't know much about them, but there may be a sight that would fit in the dovetail. You need to measure the dovetail very carefully and base your search on the results. However, from the picture it appears the stock sight is about as low as you're going to get.

How far off is the point of impact from your point of aim? I've adjusted some of those "non-adjustable" sights with a brass punch and a great deal of patience. If that solves your windage issue, you might then try some different brands and velocity ratings of .22 ammunition. Lots of .22 firearms are picky about ammo.

I just tried a little experiment with a S&W chiefs special that shot way high. I cut a small piece of metal and used a lazerbond kit to stick it on the front sight. A little black paint and you can't tell and it shoots POA. The nickel could be painted with silver model paint. Other then that any other fix is going to cost $$$$. good Luck

Well, the front sight on this thing is actually separate from the barrel, and it's blued. You can apparently unscrew them, although I haven't tried yet. Yeah, I don't want to spend $$$ unless there's a ready made solution out there like a replacement rear blade.

A taller front sight will bring your groups lower and may be easier to achieve than a lower rear sight. You could also try filing the notch in the rear sight a little deeper.

Lastly, what weight ammo are you using? I would try a few different weights to see if that affects your point of impact.

I've got the Sear's badged model Sentinel. It's 6" with SB grips. These guns are surprisingly accurate. Because of the lack of affordable .22 DA revolvers, over the last few years they've gotten expensive and "desirable". Don't make any permanent changes to it to improve accuracy unless you don't care about it's future value. Yours is a very nice example. Last year I bought a used 3" barrel and birds head style grip for mine. The tapered barrel pin is the only thing holding it in and these guns were available new as kits and included different barrel lengths and grip styles.

I don't want to "add" to the front sight, I think it would look tacky. I went on to Numrich gun parts website and got be a replacement rear sight. I'll machine that sight down 1mm, and it should help lots. That way I have the original untouched sight available if I resell it.
