Dear THR,
This thread is seeking responses from those people who have actual experience with both, HK P30 and Glock 19- not from those who have experience with just one.

This is because I am attempting to limit the discussion to facts rather than war between the internet fan boys. The very reason I didn't attach poll to this thread.

That said, which of the two do you like better with the following criteria:
1. Carry on person
2. Reliability
3. Accuracy up to 25 yards
4. Ergonomics
5. It will ALWAYS be carried with round in chamber
6. Price of a gun is NOT a factor for this thread
7. After market accessries are NOT a factor for this thread
8. What comes installed on the gun from the factory IS a factor
9. Technological edge
10. Gun will be properly cleaned after use- no torture test.

Thank you

A friend of mine had a P30, and it out performed my G19 in everyway in my hands. The fit was better, slightly more accurate, no carry experience to share, sorry. The P30 feels so good in your hands, you can help but shoot it good!:)

Tough Choice

Glock 19 = reliability, accuracy, simplicity
HK P30 (LEM) = reliability, ergonomic/natural pointer, ambi slide release and mag drop

If I was a LEO I would probably choose the Glock because of the shorter trigger pull. Being a private citizen however, if I could own only one of these it would be the HK P30. Feels better in my hand and I like the slide release and mag drop better and the longer double action trigger pull provides safety. (Choosing between the HK P30 and the Walther PPQ would be an interesting poll as well).

I have both Gen 4 G19 and V3 P30 (DA/SA no safety)

1. G19 is flatter without as many pointy thingies and is smaller. (This is for CC) for OC it doesn't really matter.
2. Neither has ever failed so a wash.
3. P30 (for me) but I suspect this is do to ergonomics rather than mechanical accuracy of the gun.
4. P30, P30, P30, the Glock fits my hand but, the P30 grips my hand. I like the mag release of the P30 better as well.
5. I feel confident with both.
6. But price of mags are.
7. Good they are both great designs....don't muck with em.
8. The only notable thing here is the luminol sights on the P30 are real bright, not the same as night sights but work well when transitioning from direct sunlight to indoors.
9. Meh, the P30 feels more "futuristic" maybe someone with more technological knowledge than I will speak up.
10. P30 is easier to take down.

The P30 feels great in the hand and I do enjoy shooting it a the range more. The Glock gets carried more because I have more rounds through it and only 200ish through my P30. Its smaller. Plus its an ugly ol Glock. I don't care if it gets scratched, confiscated, whatever. I would actualy miss my P30.

It would depend on your intended purposes. Both are reliable pistols and will serve you well.

I currently own both. I like the p30 better on all accounts. I am more accurate with the p30. The felt recoil on the p30 is much less. The p30 grips my hand while the 19 is adequate. I have had zero ftf or fte on either of the guns after 1000s of rounds. I like having all of the trigger options with the hk. The hk DA/SA has a good trigger.

I've owned both, still own the P30.

Can't really go wrong with either IMO, but the P30 is fantastic.

1. Carry on person: I'd probably go with the 19 but, with anyone of the great holster/belt combo options out there you can conceal the P30 w/o issue. P30 is a bit bigger and a little heavier I think.

2. Reliability: Glock had a rep for stupid good reliability but, have had some recent issues with their extractors/recoil springs. Not certain if that is still an issue but, I'd research b/f I bought. Both in large part are very reliable.

3. Accuracy up to 25 yards: Mechanical accuracy, i'd say is a tie.

4. Ergonomics: P30 is the most ergonomic pistol i have ever fondled. G19 Gen4 is better than the Gen 3 I owned but, doesn't come close.

5. It will ALWAYS be carried with round in chamber: don't see this as an issue with either.

6. Price of a gun is NOT a factor for this thread; Good...I have found it is better to save $$$ and get the right gun not the one you can afford in a hurry, but, that doesn't always mean the most expensive gun.

7. After market accessries are NOT a factor for this thread

8. What comes installed on the gun from the factory IS a factor: If you get factory NS with the G19 I think it is pretty much a push. Which P30 version are you looking at? I had a V3 but, some people REALLY like the LEM trigger. Also, the P30 has the euro style mag release. You might not like this but, I found if i used my trigger finger to release the mag it was very fast and easy to use. I much prefer the texturing of the P30 to either Gen3 or 4 glock.

9. Technological edge. Probably the P30 based on above...not certain.

10. Gun will be properly cleaned after use- no torture test. Both are very easy to break down and clean.

If you haven't already checked it out go to Pistol-training.com and check out Todd Green's long term test of the P30. In the forum there you will find a TON of outstanding info about both the P30 and the G19...(both are favored by the forum members as a whole). I have owned both and sold both...mostly because I want to try everything...I see myself owning both guns again (that's just what I do...it's dumb but, whatever). With your criteria I would go with the P30. It's more $ but, that doesn't matter. With the recent reliability woes of Glock I would go with the H&K, IMHO. But, really you are choosing between two Top of the Line pistols. Good luck hope this helps.

I own a P30 and carry it regularly. My regular shooting buddy has a G19 that we shoot all the time. I have a lot of trigger time on that gun.

1. Carry on person - not much difference. They are very close in size and feel. Maybe a slight edge to the P30 due to the more rounded edges... but just barely, if at all.
2. Reliability - This is a wash. Both function perfectly. I personally consider Glock and HK to be the most reliable out of the box brands you can buy.
3. Accuracy up to 25 yards - This is also probably a wash and is subjective based on how the overall gun feels to you. I am more accurate with the Glock because of the short reset trigger system. So, with 15 rounds on target, I'll get a quarter sized grouping with the Glock at 7 yards vs a half dollar sized grouping with the HK. Mechanically, they both should shoot same hole groups at 7 yards if you can do your part.
4. Ergonomics - HK for sure. The only reason I don't own the Glock is because I don't like the grip width and angle relative to the bore. This is totally personal though.
5. It will ALWAYS be carried with round in chamber - You face the same risks with either model. I personally feel both are incredibly safe.
6. Price of a gun is NOT a factor for this thread - good.
7. After market accessries are NOT a factor for this thread - also good
8. What comes installed on the gun from the factory IS a factor - both are combat grade right out of the box. You don't NEED to do anything to either gun. I had a more agressive stipple job done on my P30 grip and installed meprolight night sights just for the slide racking assist (allows for single handed slide manipulation).
9. Technological edge - even... Glock simplicity is a thing of beauty but the HK design is also exceptional in its own right.
10. Gun will be properly cleaned after use- no torture test. - either gun will last you a very long time with minimal maintenance. You don't have to baby these guns as they are both designed to function in harsh environments and with short term neglect.

Since price is not an option... My advice to you is this:

1) Go handle both guns. Pick up each one from the counter and try to acquire your sight picture as fast as you can. Give a point to which ever one you happen to get on target with faster/better. For me, I can point the P30 with my eyes closed and when I open them the sights are always aligned. You might see the same thing with the Glock.

2) Shoot each gun. Give a point to which ever one lends itself to better/more accurate shooting in your hands. Factor trigger feel, recoil, and general accuracy.

3) Feel and look at each gun. Give a point to which ever one you just feel better about.

4) Pick the one with the most points.

I really enjoyed reading some great posts in this thread. Guys have really taken time to share their thoughts. I have both of the guns, but just checking what others think.
