I have recently aquired a HK USC that has been modified to use grease-gun mags. I pretty much love this gun, but I was wondering if I could get even closer to the style and look of a UMP. I know I must complete a Form 1 with all the pursuant paperwork to be able to chop the barrel but must I also file another Form 1 if I wanted to thread the barrel and add a supressor?

IIRC, you CANNOT thread the barrel as this would make it an assault rifle. Being that it is still a "Rifle" by definition, even with the shortened barrel, it still falls under the AWB. Could be wrong on this one. Otherwise I'd pay the $200 bucks and put an M-4 barrel and M-4 stock on my post-ban receiver. Would be interested... VERY interested in what the BATFE had to say about this one. In fact, I might just call on that one.

Badger,
Your dime, but I've seen BATF letters on this and you are correct in your original analysis.

According to ATF, semi-auto SBRs are still semi-automatic rifles and therefore fall under the purview of the '94 AWB if they are manufactured post-ban.

As you no doubt know, select fire weapons aren't covered by the AW ban because they don't fill the semi-automatic part of "semi-automatic assault weapon". SBRs do.

Any Other Weapons (AOW's) are also excluded from the Assault Weapons Ban. You can therefore make a pistol with a fore-grip out of a component receiver after filing the proper paperwork and include a threaded barrel and bayonet lug. I'd rather keep my $10,000 and just stick with semi-autos for the time being, thank you. Don't think I can win the lottery without buying a ticket.
