I took a look at the 'fullsize' HK USP 9mm at the range the other night and was very impressed. It fit my hand very well - the other HK pistols I have handled (the 2000 and USP compacts) did not fit my hand very well as I have fairly large hands and actually like a long trigger reach. I did not have the chance to fire the pistol but am considering it for my next pistol - a fullsized 9mm for range use. Opinions please - how will the USP9 compare to my G34 or my XD9 Service in handling, accuracy, and ease of maintenance? What is a decent price for the USP9 in the midwest? Thanks in advance!

I've had my USP 9 for many years & many many rounds now and I bought it used. It's easily the most accurate 9mm I have...others I have are equally accurate but this was is the easiest to shoot well. I recommend them highly!
I paid $475 for it, bought some new springs and for kicks & giggles, a match trigger kit.
Handling / accuracy are awesome...maintenance vs the Glock is more difficult but it's still ALOT more gun

I like the USP 9 but you'll have to do something with the, IMO, horrible DA trigger pull. SA is smooth but DA needs some work.

Maybe I have too many rounds through my USPs or I don't know any better but I like the DA trigger on my USPs :scrutiny:

My only problem with my USP DA pull is that it's a bit too long for my tastes, but the action is smooth.

You want to feel a hellacious DA pull, try a Mark-23...yikes.

I have an USP9 Fullsize and a G35. Ease of maintanance and accuracy I'd say were about the same, but the Glock wins on handling.

The biggest issue for me with the USP is the mag release - it's too far to reach with my thumb without breaking my grip, and then I'm pushing the lever down against the second finger which is on the grip immediately below it.

Many users - myself included - prefer to use the trigger finger or second finger to work the release on the "other" side.

The other factor is the USP's safety / decocker. While this works well for me, it is an added complication which isn't an issue on the Glock.

I suppose it comes down to the size of your hands, and what you will be using it for.

P2000 grip panels

I did not try any additional grips for the P2000 - they had the 'smallest' panel on it when I tried it. The part that I did not like was not the thickness of the grip, but the fact that is was not 'tall' or 'long' enough for my hand. A short grip would be OK for a carry pistol but I'd like a full sized grip for a range gun.
