I have a few AR lowers and the urge to build my own gun. I already have 2 AR's, one a 5.56 rifle and the other a 300blk pistol. I have access to a lathe and mill and would like to build a custom gun on one of the lowers. I am curious to hear what you guys have seen built on an ar lower. I am open to anything right now, I just need a project to keep me busy

Many of us have single shot .50 BMG rifles using AR lowers.

While I would not suggest that going that big for your first project, you might use it as a guide.

I don't think it would be that difficult to build a solid single shot bolt gun in a more modest caliber as a project.

Only your enthusiasm/skill/budget/taste depend on what level you go, here is a picture of a Tubb 2000 Match Rifle which I think might be the upper end of the spectrum.

I don't know from nothing myself but this guy who lived across the street from a cop that my brother's 2nd ex wife's best friend knew said "it's an addictive hoby"

Haha thanks guys. Funny you mention the 50, as I am currently in the design process for a bolt action 50, but probably wont get to that for a few years and I'll make my own lower for it. I was just thinking something simple to play around with and wanted to see some of the odd things people have come up with. I see a 20 gauge fits in a magazine well but wont fit in a standard magazine, I didnt have any 410 shells to try.
