Just loaded up some 30-06 (KA Cases) Trimmed:2484 with a lead cast round nose Flat tip. 180 Gr. OAL set at 3015. Used the CCI#34 primer. & 15 Gr. of Unique. I was shocked of how well they grouped at 100 yards. Tested them in my Eddystone and a 1903A3. Very mild to shoot. Just thought I would share as I don't load a lot of cast stuff as a rule for rifle.

Congratulations!

I find cast bullet shooting to be very rewarding. I can spend a whole day shooting and working up new loads at very little cost.

I want to try cast bullets in my Eddystone, but I have to replace the barrel first. Right now I'm just shooting cast in my 1898 Krag and 1903s. I've been using SR-4759 with 180 to 210 gr bullets. Are wheelweights easy to find in your area?

I use the Lyman 311291 170 RNGC in my 30 cals - 03, 03-A3, RA M1917, & a 96 Krag (Bannerman carbine, unsized but lubed). All of them are phenomenally accurate and seemingly insensitive to powder used. I tend to use 2400, but Unique has been good, too. It is really a fun way to plink with them, and I have never had a problem with leading using WWs & the GCs. I recently bought a Lee 312 185 gr RNGC mold for a couple of Enfields, Mosins & a 91 Argie. Now that it's cooling off, I will be firing up the old Production Pot & see how it does. Some of the reviewers on Midway said their molds threw slightly undersized but the few I sample cast were 313.

Semper Plumbum...

To answer Slim Pickings question. These were given to me by a friend many years ago. They sat for over ten years until I got bored and decided to try them. I myself don't cast at this time due to lack of melting material ie: Wheel weights & other lead products. You can believe that I will be starting after checking out the availability of lead in my area.

+1

Weather i'm trying beat my best groups at the range or just plinking soda cans, makes it more enjoyable when i'm not thinking about how much it's costing with every shot. Plus the added bonus of shooting a bullet i cast myself.

Cast Bullets/ Rifles/Pistols

Bullet casting can be very rewarding, even with the time and toil spent making them. Add the cost of a gas check (if you use one) and their not competely cheap. My problem is: if I have all the money spent on casting bullets I would probably never be able to shoot up all the bullets I could buy.
I use a Lee 200 grain hard cast bullet with gas check and alox 235 bullet lube.
I load it in 30-06 cases with 50 grs. of AA3100 or 4831. I use a dacron filler wad on top of the powder, bell the case, seat and crimp the bullet. They fire just fine in my Winchester M1 Garand. I have fired a few matches with them with good not great results but it is just plain fun to shoot them.
I also cast 38's,9mm's,45acp,44mag,32-20,45/70,12ga slugs,54 caliber Hawkin, etc. the 45/70 cast 300gr gas check RCBS is my favorate in an 1884 Trapdoor Carbine.
I apologize for getting carried away but its one of my main hobbies and have fun doing it.

GP100man those are fine looking bullets. The ones I'm shooting are the same configueation with the exception of having a flat tip. I think they had been cast to shoot in a M94 lever action.
