I see a few threads with some homemade kydex holsters in them. So I figure what the heck, I'll try to make one. I found a few sites out there that show the process but not many of them show details on the designs of the actual holster, just the molding process (which is pretty simple stuff anyways).

The part of the design I'm looking for options on is how it attaches to the belt. I see a lot of people putting snaps and rivets in places that look like they might make contact with the pistol. I'd also like a way to distribute the weight over 2 straps with some space in-between them....maybe something like a strut?

Anyone have some good pictures of homemade ones that show some details? Since I'm getting into working with leather, I'm also going to try to make a hybrid one also....something similar to Tucker's the answer holster in design. That would be nice to have also.

Kydex is silly easy to work with. I do a lot of knife sheaths and some holsters as a hobby. The leather takes more time and skill, but always looks nicer.

Here is one I made up for my SP101 recently out of kydex and leather in the fashion of a sparks versamax. It is very thin and lightweight, but exceptionally strong. The retention is very good due to the molding.

I'm far from an expert... but drop me a PM if I can help.

anyone else wanna share some ideas? kdstrick's stuff is excellent. I'm loving that hybrid versa max idea that's going on there.
