First time reloading for a .223. This will be for a ruger ar556 mpr 1-8" twist barrel.

Looking for powder/load recommendations. I have on hand RL-15 and H4895 but with a phone call, my local LGS can score about any powder needed. Was going to use Remington 7 1/2 small rifle primers. I already have RCBS dies (#11101) and thought about doing a roll crimp around the cannelure. Edit: this load will be these Hornady .224 62 gr. sp-bt bullets.

I’ve very good results with a-2230 or a-2460 ball powder in ar’s just works real good in the powder measure drops spot for wt.

My powder choice for those bullets (and most other bullet weights) is Ramshot TAC. But RE-15 or H-4895 should work okay. Be sure to start low and work up.
As for crimping, I prefer to use the Lee Factory Crimp die and put a light crimp on rounds for AR -15's, just to make sure there is no bullet set back when feeding. I don't usually crimp loads for bolt guns.

Perfect!!

Thank you Gentleman! That will get me heading off in the right direction.

The weather was out of this world uncooperative throughout the spring and early summer. I reloaded 5 rounds apiece of 24.5 and 25.0 grains of H4895 and RL15 using the Hornady 62 gr sp-bt bullets. The shooting was 80 yards off a sandbag. Nothing super awesome to report, but the gun cycled great.

Bought some CFE223 and life changed. Again 5 round apiece: 25.1 grs, 25.6 grs, 26.1 grs and 26.6 grs. Same bullet, same distance off a sandbag. 26.1 grains of CFE223 seems to be the load near the node.

Congrats on finding success.
It looks like my CFE load, but mine didn't come in until 27.0.
Goes to show that other people's recommended loads don't always work.

My guns like that bullet better than the 55gr, Midway sometimes puts them on sale. I will have to get some CFE to try, I have used H335 for years and found it more accurate than bulk ammo.
