Well, my Hornady Concentricity Gauge finally came in yesterday.

First impressions, very solidly made. Feels of good constructions. Base is solid.

Decided to practice on some old factory Remington Core-lokt rounds in .243. Setup instructions kind of sucked. Not very good. Watched a You Tube video of some guy with and Australian accent and he did a great job on showing how to setup the press. Much easier to understand than the instructions from Hornady.

After I finally got the hang of it, which was within 20 rounds, I decided to check some old hunting rounds that I put together when I first started reloading 3 years ago. My 7mm Rem Mag loads.

Out of the 10 I checked last night, there were 2 rounds that were .004"+ runout. There were 5 that the runout was around the .002" runout mark and then there were 3 that were around the .0005" runout mark (about halfway to the .001 mark).

I put the 8 good rounds back in the box, and decided to test the correcting part of this new tool.

One round was .006" runout and the other was .005" runout. Both of them were extremely easy to correct. Both got corrected to .001" runout after one pass with the correcting feature.

Out of 5 stars, I would give it 4.5. If the instructions were better, I would give it a full 5 stars. Great little tool. Wish I had bought it sooner.

I'm no professional, just your typical avg joe and figured I'd give a review.

Here's a video of one of the rounds that had less than .001" runout. I was actually really really surprised that there was so little runout on three of the rounds considering these were from when I barely had any rounds on my belt with reloading.

does it make a difference if you spin it further out on the ogive of the bullet?

Didn't test that. I just tested the way several videos showed how to set it up.

I would think though that with the way it's built, if you went further up on the ogive, there would be an even more uneven spot for the bottom screw to push against to correct anything.

i see that on the vid. i have the rcbs casemaster and usually put the dial indicator further out. i'll have to check it both ways and see if there is a difference.

nice setup. i use mine all the time on rifle reloads.

just checked some 22-250 rounds. the difference in the runout between the side and the ogive is less than half a thousanth (and consistent). so, i guess it doesn't matter much on this particular bullet (sierra blitz king).

fyi,

i also checked the case neck runout on those rounds (i trim these necks). it's the same as the bullet runout. so, all the runout is in the case, not the bullet.

also, checked the runout at the case body/shoulder junction. all three cases checked didn't move the dial indicator.

apparently, all the runout is in the neck.
