I bought this scale 7 years ago and it has served me well. Now upon startup with fresh batteries it reads QUE2 for several seconds then powers off. In the manual the QUE2 code means for one to recalibrate. But recalibrating is not possible as it powers off suddenly.
I've not contacted Hornady and thot I'd ask here first. Is this thing toast?

Confirm you batteries are good and in the correct orientation. I've run across a dead/bad batteries every now and then out of new packs.

Was the scale working correctly before you replaced the batteries?

If it has a ac adapter try it.

Hornady GS-1500 ... reads QUE2 for several seconds then powers off
GS-1500 manual is showing "OUE2" message indicates scale needs to be recalibrated - https://www.manualslib.com/manual/832801/Hornady-Gs-1500.html?page=5#manual
[OUE2] - Recalibrate the scale as shown above.

Can you try holding down the [MODE] button before scale turns off?

Calibration Procedures for GS-1500
  1. Turn on the scale by pressing [ON/OFF] key.
  2. Wait until the LCD displays "0.00" and then press and HOLD the [MODE] key for 3 seconds, the LCD will display "CAL" then release the [MODE] key.
  3. Press the [MODE] key again, the LCD will display "CAL" and then "100.00"
  4. Add a 100g calibration weight, the display will show "PASS" and return to normal weighing mode.
  5. Put away the calibration weight and press [ON/OFF] to turn of the scale and the calibration is finished.

No AC adapter and had been working fine. Attempted the recal procedure per manual but it very quickly powers off. With bad batts I wouldn't even have a display. I tried "beating it to the punch" before powering off but that doesn't help.

I have a GS-1500 that has worked well for 4 or so years. Considering what I paid for it, if it does what yours did I’d be tossing it and replacing it with a Hornady G2 or another brand.

Reeferman...I'm leaning that way. 7 years of service for a $30ish device is nothing to lose sleep/whine about. I have my Pacific beam scale to fall back on.

While we can all agree with that it's still hard to let go of something that is like an old friend at the bench lol.

See what Hornady says. They might want the scale back so they can be sure they will never last 7 years again and might send you a replacement too. (maybe at a discount)

A lot bashed the GS-1500 but it has worked very well for me. I have other scales but used it for many loads. I have compared it to a electronic bench scale, Ohaus 1010, Pacific, 505 and it has been within a tenth of a grain or less and repeatable which works for what I load for.
If the G.S-1500 goes for crap I will replace it with the G2.

Comparing a scale to another scale is like checking one watch against another watch. If they are both off, you can't know for sure. ;)

Best way to verify accuracy of a scale is to use check weights in the weight range of powder charges - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...tal-scale-accuracy.759750/page-5#post-9593052

American Weigh OIML Class M2 $11 - https://www.amazon.com/American-Wei...&sr=8-9&keywords=scale+calibration+weight+set

Lyman NIST Class F $38 - https://www.amazon.com/Lyman-Reloading-Scale-Weight-Check/dp/B000N8LMFG

Ohaus ASTM Class 6 $72 - https://www.zoro.com/ohaus-weight-kit-cylndr-500mg-to-1mg-ss-class6-80850110/i/G0843236/

My 1500 died this year, I bought 2 for $16.00 on flea-bay and they are identical to to the 1500 minus the Red printed name on the cover.

That is using check weights.

The link lists resolution of scale as .01 gram which is .15 grain.

For reloading, I prefer to use scales with .1 gr or less than .1 gr resolution. I like .1 gr resolution Ohaus/RCBS 10-10 and RCBS 5-0-5 scales but for digital scales, $30 Gemini-20 scale (Advertised resolution of .001 gram = .015 grain) outweighed other more expensive scales down to 5 mg (.077 gr) Ohaus ASTM Class 6 check weights in the "Myth Busting Digital Scales" thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/revisited-myth-busting-digital-scales.821449/

American Weigh Gemini-20 has small platform and small pan. Here's a different $36 model from Smart Weigh with larger flat platform compatible with powder pans (I have not tested this model) - https://www.amazon.com/Smart-Weigh-GEM20-Precision-Milligram/dp/B00ESHDGOI

At the recommendation of many THR members, I bought and tested $18 WAOAW digital scale (Advertised resolution of .001 gram = .015 grain). While not as sensitive as Gemini-20 scale, it is accurate to .1 gr consistently as verified by check weights and sold by many others for $17 - https://www.amazon.com/TedGem-Digit...id=1551020938&sr=1-8&keywords=gemini+20+scale
