I was wondering if the Hornady lnl classic single stage press would make a good companion for my LNL AP? I’m thinking a single stage for those miscellaneous tasks where a single stage press may be more appropriate than a progressive press – working up low quantity loads, decaping, sizing rifle brass etc. I do have an old Lee challenger single stage but it doesn’t seem very robust, although I will admit that it has worked for past reloading activities, mostly. It's a little touch and go when resizing some rifle brass.

I have all hornady dies and lnl bushings for each die for all the calibers I load and I’m wondering if they will transfer over to the Hornady lnl single stage press? I realize they will fit the single stage but do they transfer over from the AP without needing re-adjustment? I suspect this is unlikely but thought I’d ask. If they need adjustment each time they are used on the single stage (and vice versa) I guess I’m wondering if the lnl feature is still much of a time saver in this scenario?

In the same vein I’m curious if things like the powder dispenser from the AP fit/work on the classic?

It looks like the Hornady lnl classic is currently $130 at Midway and Amazon (free shipping at Amazon), and shell holders are roughly $5-$8 each.

Midway has it on ‘Clearance’; does that mean that a new model may be coming out soon?

If you own a Hornady lnl classic single stage how do you like it?

Thanks

Yes the dies would need to be adjusted. Some folks have used shims in the single stage to raise the bushing so no adjustment needed.
Happy reading.

I actually started out with the single stage classic Hornady press kit about 10 years ago I guess. Still use it today for most rifle and all special projects. No problems with it. I have since picked up the AP, and the dies will need adjusting between the two, but it is a quick process.

You would have to do some adjustment on the dies going between 2 different presses. Why not just use your LNL AP as a single stage when needed? You can manually work the powder measure or buy a powder stand to put it on when using press as a single stage and just insert 1 die at a time.

There are also other presses that can do the bushing trick. Any that have 1-1/4" threaded hole accept the LNL bushing adapter. I got a rcbs summit to handle my single stage needs and I made a shim to jack up the adapter and now I can swap dies between presses without adjustment which is very handy. The LNL single stage also looks nice.

Because you're already committed to the Hornady bushings I'd say if you want a second press that the Hornady single is the way to go.

There's at least one video on You Tube concerning how to adjust your single stage so that the dies are good for both presses.

BYJO4, sometimes we want to run an operation in parallel or to just run off some test loads without breaking down the main press setup. A second press can be handy for such things.
