I had a blast shooting at the range the other day. What's not to like about 150 rounds through my BHP?

I normally don't shoot graphic targets, but I got tired of shooting silloute targets, so I reached for one with a BG pointing a gun at me in one hand and his other arm around the neck of a hostage held in front of him. His left chest area was covered with the hostage, but there was a nice gap exposiingthe BG's upper chest beside the hostage's head between the hostages right shoulder and the BG's neck. I thought about it for not very long and proceeded to throw some lead into that gap at 7 yards until there was no paper left to show my shots impacting. The hostage was still in good shape and I was bored, so I put the next ragged hole into the upper shoulder holding the gun. Thought about it a little longer and decided that while the hostage was still alive, I had long since probably been shot a few times and the hostage was lucky I didn't pull any shots into his head ;-). So the next magazine or two went between the eyes, after which I stopped thinking at all and put some shots into the BG's forearm "lengthwise," i.e. bullet travel through the hand with the gun and down the forearm.

Aside from having a marvelous good time, I left wondering where the best place to shoot this BG might be. So, what do you think?

Center mass of his largest exposed area...if there is no CNS shot available (or a CNS shot isn't necessary). Since his gun was pointed at you, the risk to the hostage from him is small, so shoot at the largest area and MOVE and keep shooting. After your first round hits him he and the hostage will be in motion and then he (hopefully) will be more exposed for your follow on shots. Glad it was fun...that reminds me, I need to go shoot my BHP (and my new 870.):p

To shoot a bad guy in the movies is a good thing-- you get to be a hero. In real life by the time the liberal press and a publicity seeking DA got through with you, your life would have a bad taste. Further, if you let the bad guy live becuse you're a fantastic marksman and chose to just wound him, you'd have a shyster lawyer defending him as the innocent victim and you'd be the bad guy.

I decided long ago that I would shoot someone only if I decided the situation was life threatening to me or someone around me I chose to take responsiblity for. Coming from that perspective, I would make every effort to kill the person I chose to shoot. By that, I mean that in the hostage situation described, once deciding I was going to try to shoot the SOB I'd go for the most lethal area I could get to and not quit shooting until one of us was dead.

If I survived, I know my life would be hell after the event but at least the perp wouldn't be able to sit on the witness stand and try to taint the jury with his version of the "truth".

I downloaded some pictures of Rosie O'Donuts and had them printed at Kinko's. Everybody who sees them want copies. Great stress reliever.
P.S. Center of mass is pretty much anywhere you aim. :D

Does anyone ever give you any flack about shooting at Rosie ? (sure aint gonna be me)
I took a Bin Laden target to the range and some guy freaked out .
"We don't shoot human targets " he said
Talked to some club board members they said the club passed them out after 9-11

He probably wouldn't see any humor at all in my Hanoi Jane targets. :D

If the BG's head was clearly seen then a crainal-ocular shot is usually best.
That's roughly a 3" x 4" "mask" of the eyes and above. Nasal cavity hits don't work. Also 7 yds. is about the max one could reliabily make a C/O shot at speed under that type of stress.

Fold a human target in half and train to shoot a bad guy behind cover like Strambo said.;)
