Please post pics of your pump, bolt, semiautomatic, falling block break action or OTHER 30-30s. Just no leveractions:evil: This is gonna be a levergun FREE thread.

Here's a picture of my Sears brand Savage 340 wearing a Leupold VXIII 3.5x10x40 AO scope. LOL the scope is probably worth twice what the rifle is. Coming soon is a black walnut straight line thumbhole stock from richards microfit.

This is an N.E.F. in 30-30 Winchester that I did some modifications to. The barrel was shortened to 16 1/4" and a 2" muzzle brake was added to the barrel after the muzzle was recrowned with an 11 degree target crown. The base and barrel were modified for the larger and longer 8-40 screws and the trigger was adjusted down to 30 ounces. This gun will consistantly shoot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with Hornady's 155 gr. A-MAX bullets....

I hope this one counts, it's a 30-30 Ackley Improved in a T/C Contender....

Krochus,

I rechamber a lot of the T/C Contenders and N.E.F. Single shot rifles in 30-30 Winchester to the 30-30 Ackley Improved and depending on barrel length, there is an average gain of 200-300 fps.. I have done several Ruger #3's in this cartridge and they will easily pust a 125 gr. bullet to 3,000 fps...

Another advantage of going to the 30-30 Ackley Improved, especially in the two guns mentioned above is that upon firing, there is less backthrust transmitted against the standing breech face - meaning the frame takes less of a beating upon firing...

Also, for either the 30-30 Winchester or the 30-30 Ackley Improved, you can make cases fron 375 Winchester brass for increased case life....

My first center-fire rifle ever was my bolt action savage 30-30. Took my first deer with it. I think it would be one of the best firearms to give a youngster as it doesnt kick but still gives enough report that you know it fired (so its a great larger rifle "spring board" caliber). And up to 150 yards its a great deer rifle!

I have owned more 30-30's than I care to recall but this one is my all time favorite...

The cartridges below are of a regular 30-30 Winchester in the center with a 30-30 Ackley Improved round on either side....

I own a Savage 340 in .30-30... I've told some about it in other threads. Just I don't have any photos of it. It's wearing a Bushnell 3-9X scope. With any factory 150gr I've fed it, it shoots great. It don't seem to like the 165gr Hornady SP's that were handloaded for it though. Same story with the 147gr FMJ-BT's. Hey, if a .30-30 levergun is the "redneck assault rifle", the Savage 340 has to be the "redneck sniper rifle". I'm thinking of trying Hornady's 150gr SP Interlock (#3031 which is actually made for .308, .30-06, and several others) over enough IMR4064 to run it 2000-2200fps and see how it really does with those. And I may try that same bullet over IMR3031.

I too am looking for a Remington 788 in 30-30 Winchester cause I want to make myself a 6mmX30-30 Improved:D:D:D....

I ran across this 340 at a pawn shop in Russellville, AR earlier this year. Although you can't do a lot with a stick of white birch, I couldn't resist at least changing out the forearm tip. This one will be a grandson's first rifle some day soon...

D&T,

Were you on Greybeard's forums awhile back..? I always wondered what the big deal was about advocating for 30-30AI, but apparently not favored over there...?

If it wasn't you this makes no sense, please disregard...

NON lever action 30-30's.

I have 2 of the Rem 788's in 30-30 that I use for cast bullets only. Both are scoped and the sights removed and a bit of customizing done to make them look better. Neither are for sale!!! Also have a 788 in 223 that is a great shooter also. And 3 standard Win 94's in 30-30 (one a pre WWII)and a Win. Trapper in 30-30. As you can tell I really like the 30-30 cartridge. I shoot about 98% home cast bullets in all of mine. Lee 170gr and gaschecked. :)

I have a Contender super 14" SS in 30-30 with a 4X atop it. I have taken several deer with it using Nosler 125 gr BT's over some IMR 4198. VERY, very effective with accuracy well under 1" at 100 yds.

I have killed a couple so dead, they bounced when they hit the ground. Killed one at 175 yards (one shot-bam-flop) and had complete penetration with the load above.

There is a lot more to the old 'tired' 30-30 than a lot of people realize. I have seen no need to go to the AE flavor.

From a handloading and accuracy standpoint, the 30-30 Win. is probably one of the most accurate cartridges out there. From a heavy barreled bolt action or break open single shot, this old time cartridge is capable of 1/4" groups or less with most spitzer type bullets....
