How do you pocket carry?

Your dress style and your stature will define your options. 6’ tall, dress slacks & button up shirts due to work. One front pants pocket carries a pistol in a pocket holster, either:
- Kel Tec P3AT in Desantis Nemisis
- SIG 238 in Blue Force Gear
- Kahr CM9 in Boraii
Dress shacks are roomy enough to have a flat wallet (cash & 2 or 3 cards only) in the same pocket with the handgun. This breaks the outline.

Key ring w small small flashlight & small Mace spray, folding knife (2” to 3” blade), and loose change in the other front packet.

Checkbook style wallet in one back pocket, and a bandanna in the other.

Cell phone & ink pen in shirt pocket with business cards, too.

I have 5 pockets total with the shirt, and I use all of them

What are dress shacks? Extra roomy pants?

I also have a wallet that is totally flat with just the Minumum cards etc. My belt is a Slip design for easy adjustment throughout the day. Minimum keys and a small knife that clips on easy.

In the past 10 years, I tried all kinds of ways to carry a firearm. Have to say, I do not think the Human body by nature is made to carry a concealed weapon. That said, here is one of my favorite Carry positions for concealment.I find it a lttle slow on the draw, especially when I wear long pants but conceals well.

I would think that wearing a kilt would work well with that style of carry.

I can carry my Shield in front pocket of my cargo shorts because the pockets are very deep. I have an older Galco leather pocket holster that I've used for several different guns. The Shield is pretty big for pocket carry bit your mileage may vary depending on your pants and body size.

For slacks I carry a Pico in a Blackhawk Tech pocket holster.

I've found i simply can't compromise what i am comfortable carrying from a personal safety standpoint. Therefore I have taken it upon myself to bring back Parachute Pants. With these babies i have no problem strapping an AR with a reversible magazine on my thigh. To offset the weight I elect to strap a Saiga .410 to the other. I know, I know...410. However the 20 and 12 put me out of balance. The .410 is really just a back up anyway.

I'm teasing of course.

I wear what i wear to work that fits my needs. I don't dress around my gun. That means jeans that fit my body with a fitted tee shirt or polo. Nothing dumpy, nothing baggy, nothing too tight. I worried about being able to do my job which requires kneeling, standing, and not looking like a slob in front of my customers. I need something that diappears in this type of pocket.

I carry a pocket .380 like an LCP II or a S&W Bodygaurd. Now i shoot best right handed. However, I also use a knife, screwdriver, keys or anything else really better with my right than left, and i would like to have the tools i will need 20 times a day handier. I carry my pocket .380 in a Blackhawk Tech holster that sticks firmly in my left pocket. My right is where I keep my pocket knife or the tool i am using or any cash i may be carrying. It doesnt print much in jeans, and it has worked for me in such a way for about a decade.

On occasion I will pocket carry my Sig P365 with the 12 round mag. I carry it in a pocket holster in my right front pocket in my cargo shorts.

You still need a good belt, or at least I do since I don't have any hips.

Wrangler cargos, P365 in a sticky. Just bought the 365 but carried a Kahr CM9 the same way for 3 years. Never an issue.

This is very useful, not just what you carry, but where too. Thank for posting.

Walther PPK/s or Colt Pony rear pocket carry in blue jeans in an old Strong Leather Pocket holster. Comfortable 24/7

Usually wear carhartt jeans or bibs, carry a 365, lcp2 or s&w 38 snub in the front right pocket. The auto's are in sticky holsters, the 38 just goes in the pocket.

I cant. I've tried a LCR in a desantis nemesis a few times in cargo shorts but if I sit down it's ludicriously obvious a gun is in my pocket. I find belt carry both more comfortable and concealable.

Interestingly, the only time I've been "outed" carrying was pocket carrying that LCR, and I normally carry a full size 226 or 1911.

I agree about belt carry more comfortable. That being said, I haven’t really pocket carried because my shield isn’t very pocketable for me.

I guess it’s time i start looking for something a bit more pocketable, and as always, the good people of THR have stepped up with a lot of suggestions.

Somebody else may have already asked this but have you considered a tuckable holster?

We’re you carrying in the “cargo” pocket? The lower one? That doesn’t work for me either; the pistol’s weight makes it swing around like a pendulum and bang into things. But in the top pockets it works fine.

I pocket carry a Pico, P32, or P238 every day in a Nemesis, right front pocket. I’ve never been “outed,” sitting or standing.

Tailor the gun to the pocket. Ruger LC9S to dress slacks and LCP to jeans, both in a Sticky. Spare mag in a Sticky in the theater ticket pocket of a sport coat. Beltman belt to give enough support to hold everything up. [Backing up previous replies.]

My buddy carried a Walther TPH in a well-worn leather holster, in his right front pocket for years. Every pair of his pants has a TPH "Skoal ring" in the front right pocket, and its pretty obvious whats in there causing it. Looks like the outline of the TPH. I suppose if you didnt look at it, you wouldn't notice, but its pretty hard to miss.

Something to consider, especially if you carry the gun on a daily basis and youre cheap. :)

No, the front right pocket. It conceals OK when I'm standing but bulges big time when I sit unless I adjust it off my leg, which is obvious in itself.

I do, to be fair, have muscularly thick thighs and pant-thigh looseness and pocket space to belt size ratio is always a challenge in most pants. Enough leg and pocket space basically means I need a waist size way too big in many pant brand/styles.

So I stick with belt carry, tucked if need be, and it works well. But I often wish I could manage a BUG pocket carry but sadly not even my old LCP worked to my satisfaction.

Pocket carry is easily the most comfortable method of carry for me. Like the OP, I used to carry my cell phone in my front right pocket, and keys and a pocket knife in my front left. I’ve moved the phone to the left pocket with the keys and knife so my right pocket is free. Then I slip either a LCP Gen 2 in there with a Desantis Nemisis or a J-frame in a Safariland holster. Like Fiv3r said, I dress how I want, with fitted pants and a polo or t-shirt as I HATE the baggy, dumpy look. I’ve yet to find jean or khaki pockets that couldn’t fit an LCP. I do have a couple shorts with pockets that are shallow enough that the butt of a j-frame is visible though, but the LCP is still fully concealed.

Yes, I know some people pocket carry a Shield, but right or wrong I envision those that do so as wearing bubba overalls and t-shirts that go halfway down their thighs. I’ve even tried a Kahr MK9 and a SIG P938 in my pockets and I’ve found them to be too large. Those micro 9’s do physically fit in my pockets fine, but when I wrap my stocky medium sized fists around them both my hand and gun gets stuck in my pockets like a Chinese finger trap; the harder I pull the more stuck they become. Not a good situation to be in if you ever need to pull your gun in a hurry.

So I recommend you look at any of the small .380’s. I can’t image that you’d have any trouble carrying any of them in your pocket.

I’m interested more in carrying in slacks, dockers, jeans with a polo tucked in vs say cargo pants.

I carry a Shield from time to time, and when I do so in slacks or Dockers or anything else with a tucked-in shirt, I use a Smart Carry holster. Pocket carry simply doesn't work for me with those options. In jeans, however, I can pocket carry in some of them (Wranglers), but not all of them (Lee, Levi). I can pocket carry in my Carhart shorts, and it's very comfortable and accessible, but I can't comfortably do that in my other shorts. Most of the time, however, I carry the Shield in a Tulster holster, which is probably my favorite holster at the moment.

  1. A Shield is a relatively big gun for pocket carry. I'd be reluctant to use something much bigger than a Walther PPK/S. In fact, I've passed up a PPK/S because I thought the grip was too big, and I used to own one before CCW was legal in Ohio.
  2. I regularly pocket carry a 2" S&W Model 36. I started out using a DeSantis Nemesis then switched to a homemade leather pocket holster.

No one has. I’m open to suggestions. Besides, as much as I’d like a new firearm, a new holster would be a little less expensive, if it would work for me.

Lol, I do hope folks realize I was using sarcasm in this method of carry. Actually one of the most ridiculous I have seen and there are many ridiculous carry methods. Seriously, you really need to try different methods and time yourself. Pocket carry is so slow. One of my favorite is IWB with a small gun Apex cross draw. It is FAST. Try it. Actually around the 11 0" clock position.

Here is a nice little holster, especially in the summer time and some times with out a belt and just shorts. You can carry in a number of different ways.
