Ok, maybe the title should have said how do you store your Looong guns...

For anything with an over 30" barrel or so how do you keep them "safe"? Any standard sized RSC, safe etc is going to likely be too short. So for example you've got a couple 338 Lapuas or an M99 laying around with 30-32" barrels whats your storage plan??

Even further and maybe a little more common, maybe you have muskets or your grandpa's old "long tom" shotgun with 35-40" barrels. Anyone buying custom height safes for stuff like this? Are many manufacturers making containers that are much over 5 feet tall??

I was not able to afford a safe tall enough to accommodate my muzzle loaders, some of which have 42+" barrels. What i found was some high school gym lockers that were going to be thrown out that i was able to modify and reinforce to make a gun safe that will handle my long rifles. It is not a safe, but it is a lockable steel cabinet that will keep curiosity seekers and honest people honest. I have no delusions that it will keep a determined criminal from breaking into it, but I think who ever does break in may be disappointed at what they find.

I don't have this problem, but if I did I think I would just store them in the safe disassembled, if practical to do so.

Most of my black powder muzzle loaders with the long barrels are not easily broken down. The barrels are pinned to the stock. When taken apart, the stock is very susceptible to damage as it is very thin. Storing the guns fully assembled is the only safe way.

Yes, but you won't find them at Stack-on prices

My safe is kinda small, but I can stand a 30" barreled shotgun in the rack and still have room under the shelf. My Mosin 91/30 just barely pokes into the slot on the shelf above it, it's my longest long gun. It's a Winchester safe.

The top shelf on my Browning Pro safe extends full width of the interior. The portion that crosses the long gun compartment has a slot that allows the gun barrels to extend thru it. Shot guns with 30 inch barrels fit with at least 10 inches to spare. I’ve never measured it however.

So as I tend to do sometimes I was over thinking the situation. I received the rifle today (33 inch barrel) and it fit with about 7 or so inches to spare.

Thanks for the comments.

Think of the chunk gun shooters who have rifles with barrels 48 inches and longer. Some of ‘em stand on stools to load, some of ‘em dig holes to lower the muzzle.
