How does everyone mount an Optic on S&W Revolver?

I was looking through the S&W website catalog for a .357 revolver with a rail for optics. I could only find the Competitor 686. Am I missing something? Have all the revolvers that I have seen with an optic been drilled and tapped by a gunsmith? Can any revolver be drilled and tapped for a rail? Do any come from the factory predrilled and tapped?

I don't want an optic today but I might someday. I like the N Frame 627 a lot!

Most of the current Smith models above the J-Frame come drilled & tapped for scope mounting.
The holes are under the rear sight base, you have to remove the sight to use them.

Easy to check, just open the cylinder & look at the underside of the topstrap for the two holes.

Oh, that explains it. All I currently own is a J-Frame and therefore didn't know the others models are drilled under the rear sight. Awesome!

Thanks

629-3. Remove the rear sight and there are the mount holes, drilled and tapped. Screw on the Weaver base/Leupold base, and away you go.

This is what I just ordered for a 657.
The starter scope came with rings, so I believe I have what I need. The scope upgrade projected needs pricey rings added. I am not sure about optic power, but so far am starting with 2.5x and the scope upgrade is 2x. Variable seemed like a durability risk on a magnum gun, and I wanted a slim, low profile.
