How is Power Factor calculated in USPSA?

Power factor = muzzle velocity times bullet weight, divide by 1000.
A 200 grain bullet at 825 fps has power factor 165, the minimum for Major Power Factor scoring. Minor Power Factor is 125 to 164.99.

Caliber does not enter into it except that you may not shoot anything smaller than .40 for Major Power Factor in any Division except Open.

So they just guestimate the velocity?

Nobody ever asked me what bullet weight I'm using, just what caliber. They must have assumed 115gr for nine and 230gr. for fortyfive. Hmmm, I wonder what they'll assume for forty ess and doubleya...

They assume nothing.
A match of any size will have a chronograph and a scale.

Club shoots will take your word for it. If you shoot factory, just quote the factory specifications. If you handload, surely somebody there has a chronograph you can use to test and adjust loads on.

If you are shooting USPSA, and in Production Division, you are scored minor regardless of power factor down to 125,000 PF. A's are 5pts, B/C's are 3 pts and D's are 1pts in minor. For all other divisions, and shooting major (165,000), A=5, B/C=4, D= 2.
