How long after eye surgery did you start shooting again?

I had some eye surgery to remove a freckle. I asked the doctor when I could start shooting. As far as he was concerned I could shoot my shotgun the next day. I'm going to play it by ear and skip my league and club shoot for about a week and a half and take it from there.

Have any of you had eye surgery and how long did you wait before shooting? Just curious.

Shoot as soon as you feel comfortable and the Doc Oks it

I have had 2 cataract surgeries and went shooting as soon as I could see well enough to shoot, that was about 3 days.
The only surgery that would be of concern would be if you had a detached retina, I went through that too, and with that problem definitely no shooting for several weeks. Want to make sure the laser surgery to the retina has healed properly.
For the type of surgery you underwent, I would think you would be very safe to shoot within a few days, Listen to the doctor and use your own judgement
Sight is precious and should be guarded and protected. Cant be too careful!

My neighbor and his wife both just had cataract surgeries on both eyes. He is getting back to normal pretty quick but his wife is taking longer. He told me his doctor said it could be a couple of months for some people to get back to normal but most people didn't take near that long. That's pretty much a wost case scenario. I know he says he can see better than he has in 40 years. They both had LASIK surgery at the same time. He said most people get over the surgery in around 48 hours but in his case they only did one eye at a time so it stretched the recovery time out some.

It took me about a month to get past the sunlight sensitivity thing, after my cataract surgery. I still generally wear sunglasses outside. Have had some 'floater' problems, and many tiny 'micro bubbles' that persisted for nearly a year. Pretty much gone now.
But I could use open sights within days of the surgery. It was so nice to do that again, and not have to "shoot for center of fuzzy mass!"

When the doctor says OK

I recently had cataract surgery on both eyes a month apart.

I waited until after the 1 week eye exam when the doctor said it was OK and plan to do the same on the other eye.

He spoke of a patient who went out drinking and dancing after his surgery. That night while drunk, he went to remove his contacts and TORE his freshly cut eye surface off!!!

His desire for me to keep my hands off my eyes worked. I waited about a month before I did really anything, and have been sober ALONG time.

How is this a difficult question?

It's only difficult because the doctor said I could go shoot the next day if I wanted to. That seemed too soon. I'm going to wait longer and just wondered what others have been told.

And KEEP to the meds schedule! I cheated on the first eye, stopped too soon, and eye got red. The Eye doc really let me have it! I was a good boy from then on, and actually had to extend the meds a week.

I had PRK. About two weeks (if I remember correctly) afterwards, I was out at the range shooting.

I have been following the meds. Last thing I want is an infection or something worse.
