How Many Carry the 1911 With the Standard Thumb Safety?

Extended safeties were designed to ride your thumb on...correct?

I use the Gunsite low mount. Slightly extended forward, but dropped down on the mounting plate.

I have Ed Brown Tactical safeties on all my 1911s. I've never had a problem.

Half of my carry 1911s have the standard thumb safety; I've been shooting 'em this way for over 30 years and feel quite comfortable packing with the old-fashioned little-bitty safety ...

I have the Gunsite low mount on a couple of pistols and like it but it does make weak hand shooting a little more difficult for me. I generally prefer the standard safety over the extended type for carry.

I used Ed Brown's tactical thumb safety for year. It feels the best to me and therefore is my favorite. I don't like the wide "paddles" or ambi's".

That said my current Kimber still wears its original factory thumb lock.
It works just fine but if it ever requires attention it will be replaced by the above mentioned Ed Brown version.

I also get along just fine with the stock Colt and Military versions as well.

I prefer the Ed Brown 'tactical' ambi safety. I shoot ambi and I ride the safety while shooting with either hand. Double extra triple bonus to have the Brown ambi safety.

Both of my 1911's are SA "Loaded" models with extended ambi's. I intend on switching the Micro that I carry to a standard, single-side model. I have accidentally snicked it off a couple of times re-holstering. I don't see the need for them, really, unless you're a lefty, but I don't mind it on my Gov't model. (I don't carry the 5" gun) I still would have bought it with a standard style safety. Definitely one thing I wouldn't have added to a project gun but it's OK with me that the loaded model came with it.
