@GBExpat, in another thread, got me to thinking about how many different cartridges were needed to load my various guns. Not wishing to hijack that thread completely, I started this one.

I was a bit surprised to realize that it's only 5 different cartridges.
.22LR
.380 ACP
.357 Mag
9mm
.44 Mag.

Not sure if that was by subconscious planning or it just happened that way. I used to have a .32 but gave it to my sister when I found out she had no firearm in the house for protection.

I'm not sure off the top of my head but I answered a thread like this years. ago and it was around 20. Half of that is old military calibers. Hmmm I spaced it in columns but they run together in the post.

Now you got me thinking! I think thats everything.

I reload for all but 3. Including special versions.

22lr
7.62 Tokarev
9mm Luger
9mm Makarov
357 Magnum
40 S&W
45 ACP
454 Cassull
12 gauge

I think that’s everything excluding other calibers that the 357 and 454 can also fire.

Are you referring to load for as in hand load? If so primarily 308 and 6.5 CM. I have dies for 30-06, but don't shoot it as much as I used to. Excluding 22's and shotguns

I also have rifles in:

223/5.56
30-30
35 Rem
44 mag.

I shoot the 223 a lot, but can buy ammo cheaper than it is worth my time load for. The others don't get shot a lot and I have enough factory loads on hand to last me the rest of my life.

Handguns:

9mm
10mm
357 mag
45 ACP
44 mag

The magnum rounds aren't shot a lot. 9mm, 10mm and 45 ACP are cheap enough that I'd rather just buy factory loads.

In the past I've owned:

41 mag
40 S&W
45 Colt
380
38 Special
9X18
270
280
243
7mm Rem mag
7.62X39
300 Win mag
300 WSM
35 Whelen
338-06
45-70

And probably a couple I've forgotten

Are you referring to load for as in hand load?
No, I meant if you had to go buy ammo for all the guns you currently have, how many different chamberings would you have to get?
Obviously in my case I don't have to get .38 and .357 as I have no .38's in my collection, although a few .357's.

I stay with the well worn paths, every time I think about going to an exotic new cambering I think about all the old guns I see with crippled value due to being chambered in a dead or nearly dead cartrige.

possible future chambers,
6.5 creedmoor, very new for my taste but such a huge uptake by the community that I think its a safe buy.
.458 SOCOM, this one appeals to me, basically a semi-auto 45-70, great for the close ranges I typically find. this one is not quite settled, there are competing big bore AR offerings, .450 bushmaster and 50 beowulf. (and others) all having plusses and minuses I really want there to be a clear winner of these three.

38 Super (load my own)
10mm Auto (load my own)
45acp (load my own)
38 Special (Don't need it any more because I sold my 38 revolver, but I shoot them from my 357s.) (load my own, mostly +p)
357 Magnum (load my own)
45 Colt (Don't need it, but I used to shoot them from my 460 Magnum. sure not getting rid of the brass though as I'm sure I'll end up with a Colt SAA at some point.) (Don't load them yet.)
454 Cassul (Don't need them but I used to shoot them from my 460 magnum. Thinking about trading them for different brass.)
460 S&W Magnum (I've got the dies, but haven't started loading them yet. I need bullets and ammo boxes.)

I don't actually own any rifles in rifle cartridges, only PCCs. However one of them is a 10mm auto and the other is a rifle in 460 S&W Magnum, so I can reach out if need be.

Edit: Forgot 32 S&W Long and 8mm French Ordnance (Lebel)

I stand strong against new cartridge dimensions as well as new magazine styles in all but the most extreme circumstances.

I've been drawn kicking and screaming into owning; 7.62x25, .303 Brit and 7.62x54 due to particular guns matching a vein of collecting.

Aside from that:
.22lr -- Zero love for the .17
.22wmr -- Because that's what my Levermatic eats.
.32acp -- I dig that little pill.
.32 S&W -- Because.... EVERYONE needs a .32 gun in his pocket for fun!
.380 -- Family legacy and Film Noir.
.38/.357 -- Most versatile handgun cartridge out there.
9mm -- Preparation for war.
9x23 -- Who doesn't want a little more *9*?
.38 Super -- Much as above.
10mm -- Yeah - Miami Vice!
.45ACP -- One needs NEVER explain!
.44 RMag -- Because; everyone has to ask themselves one question... Well, that and; Ursus arctos horribilis!
.44 Special -- Even Dirty Harry loaded down.

.223 -- It's right for me!
7.62x39 -- Sovs get it right - even if they had to crib one of the greatest achievements in WWII personal arms from the Germans.
7.62x51 -- Fits best in a FAL or an M-14 - what more to say.
7.62x54 -- Because I wanted an M-44 for my Carbine collection.
7.62x63 -- I will not even bother to explain the Springfield!
.45-70 -- Everyone should have at least one shoulder-launch artillery piece.

Gauges; .410, 20, 16 and 12.

I'm pretty damn conservative when it comes to calibers. I don't like having a huge array of ammunition nor magazines to filter through and can't be bothered to excessively organize like some to make a cornucopia of calibers work for me.

This frees me from ever wandering into the deep waters of Savage, Winchester and most particularly the oddities of the French ballistic adventures among others.

Todd.

I wish you guys would get it figured out. Several of us are needing to add a big bore carbine in either levergun or AR configuration. For...you know dinosaurs... or whatever.

Twenty-three responses and no one reloads the Winchester WCFs??
Instead of listing them, I can reload 26 other calibers, and have the guns for all except .308 which I do for my son-in-law.
