For those of us with permits or that reside in free states, how many handguns do you make a habit of carrying when you carry?

I'm rather curious if any real percentage of carriers carry a backup. Please note I'm referring to what you regularly carry, not the most you've ever carried or what you carry when someone has a price on your head or whatever (unless that's a regular occurrence for you.. :what: )

Just one. Carrying two can be heavy and I don't live down the road from drug dealers anymore.

I'm not a cop, I'm not security personnel....... The chance of me ever needing to use my primary is slim enough......so the chance of me needing a gun, having my primary gun go down, and then needing to use a backup is unfathomably small....

If I do ever carry more than 1, its either out of novelty, or because I'm going to the range and don't want to pack up my range bag.

I carry one, sometimes with an extra mag. For over 50 years, that's been one gun more than I've ever needed. I realize that a situation can arise where I'm under-gunned, but I keep the first rule of a gunfight: bring a gun.

For most civilians, they will never see the need to draw a weapon. IN areas where open carry is common, the chances are even slimmer. I've been carrying for 50 years. the last 35 years as a civilian,, I carry defensively. I carry to protect myself and my family. I've never had the need for a back up weapon. I have had the need to " Have " a weapon, and all I can say is, I'm very happy I choose to carry everyday. I am someone very aware of their surroundings, IM also vigilant about tactics used by Bad Guys by paring attention to Gun related News daily. I cant remember one time where a civilian needed back up to defend themself. Of course anything is possible , but you have to draw the line, somewhere. Most civilian encounters are over in less than 30 seconds. You can always ad a Yeah but, or a what if.... the chances of needing a weapon is very slim, and on top o9f that needing a back up on that rare occasion is even more remote...
To those with those thoughts, how about body armor? Why not? You can put bars on your windows and doors, trip wire alarms, motion detectors, etc. But we all have to draw the line somewhere. I feel safe with one weapon, its the reason I carry.
Not to shoot someone, but to have a chance. Knowing I have at least a chance is what makes life so much more enjoyable. Many people go through life walking in the shadows, head down, afraid to give eye contact, and literally scared to death at time finding themself in a dangerous place.

I usually carry a 9mm and an extra mag. Sometimes a 45 and an extra mag. Sometimes a snubby and a speedloader. Rarely do I carry a backup. Only when going to the city for my visits to pain management. I'm that case I carry a backup.

One of the nice things about carrying a pocket nine, is you can carry two of them and its not a whole lotta extra weight.

I also always have a SAR B6P in a Gum Creek vehicle holster just to the right of my right knee whenever I'm driving

Two.

Invariable: NAA Mini Revolver in .22Mag worn in a neck holster. It is the recent model that has the safety notches in the cylinder. If you take extra care in assuring that the firing pin is definitely in a safety notch there is no risk in neck carry.

Even if I inadvertently neglect to carry a more formidable handgun, I am always armed. It’s better than spitting or using harsh words.

Variable: A Colt Combat Commander in 9x23 is my preferred handgun if clothing and circumstances will allow. Otherwise the most serviceable handgun, usually a G27, for clothing worn and circumstance.

I don't see a need for more than 1, that being a Browning HP. That gives me 15 rds, if that isn't enuf I'll start to disengage at about 11.
IF I'm going some where that 1 pistol isn't enuf then I'll carry a CAR 15 with a 40 rd mag in addition to the HP.

Just my little Commander, the same one I practice with an average of twice a week. Since barring a zombie apocalypse the most likely use will be defense against dog or coyote I see no need for more.

Generally the only time I carry 2 guns is in the winter when I'm wearing multiple layers of clothing and I'm going to be out for an extended period.

In that case I'll have my M&P9 on my hip and my 9C in my coat pocket

I used to carry a BHP in 40. Great pistol that I do miss.

I only carry 1 pistol at a time. Typically either a 1911 Commander, M&P 40 full size, or a Kahr P380 when I can't carry the others.

This time of year it's two, I layer up with one on the hip/shoulder and a scandium L-frame snub, 44 Special; LFN/WFN in a coat pocket. :)

4 legged critters are my biggest concern.

Carried 3 while working as I KNEW that there was no way I was going to "find" a gun if I needed one.

Rule of "plus one" is one that I live by.

One is none,2 is one.

I see that as a life saver = IF you ever need a gun.

BUG is one that I fully expect to never need,as I fully expect to never NEED my primary !.

That being said, its a FACT [ saw it and lived it ] the police are only minutes away ------ when seconds count.

Do as y'all choose ------- I do !!
