So, I finally went out and made my mind up and purchased a new CETME. Looks pretty good, although the mag catch is installed a little high, so they are going to have to smith it down to the proper position.

So now I need to stock up on pre-bans, and boy are the G3/CETME mags cheap.

I had originally, when I was considering an AK planned on spending up to about $120 on magazines, but AK mags (which are cheap) are a few bucks more than G3 mags.

There is a source where I can get G3 alloy mags for $2 each.

So how many mags should I pick up?

I.G.B.

Hmm... factoring in tax/possible shipping charges...

I'd have to go with 54 to 57 mags total. As you said, they're beautifully inexpensive, so why not go for it? :D

Realistically, I'd buy 20, and spend the money on ammo--though the G3 mags are cheap compared to the AK mags, .308 is a lot more expensive than 7.62x39mm... that's where most of your money will/should probably go.

Stock up as many as you can afford.

G3 alloy magazines are not as durable as the steel ones. I feel that another gun ban will pass in the not so distant future.

The way I look at it, since I don't really sell firearms and I feel that in the future they, (all Larger than 10 rnd MAgs) may get hard to find, maybe in 20 years but sometimes, I try to get them whenever I can. I look at it this way. I want to have a good enough supply so my Grandkids can still shoot them with no worry about finding mags. I'm 30 now so you can see I'm trying to think ahead.

There really isnt a downside to having a ton of mags around. They will always be worth SOMETHING should you decide to sell them off. And besides you never know when they might suddenly dry up.

Furthermore magazines provide a REALLY convenient way to store ammunition :p

Ignoring politics, I wouls say 15 steel mags or 30 alloy mags per rifle, but given the possible future laws I don't think there is a such thing as too many. You don't have enough AK mags.
