Just a question for those of you have attempted to make a mosin into a tack driver. How much did you do before you could get the rifle to drive nails? I have seen some pics of some people turning mosins into "sniper rifles" but have never seen anyone post the size of the groups they squeeze out of the them. What kind of accuracy did you get out of it?

Gonna depend on what condition rifle you can get hold of. Handloads will go a long way for consistency. i dont see why 1.5 inch groups couldnt be had.

If I can scrounge up my buddy to go shooting again, I'll show you groups with his hand loads out of an Accurized, re-stocked, scoped, and tuned mosin. I'll try to take some pics as well. His rifle will do just under an inch at 100 yards. But he also has a lot of money tied into it as well. He's got a barrel from a Madsen Machinegun on it and it'll put my rifles to shame, lol. But I'll see if I can raise him to take it out. Last I knew, it's been a while since he's reloaded for 7.62x54R

I have a stone stock M39 with a scout scope that will shoot less than one inch at 100 yards with out of the box Privi 50 gr sp. I have a stock 1937 Izzy with a scout scope that shoots around one inch at 100 yards. I have a 1943 Tikka barrel 91/30 that will shoot one inch with Albanian ammo. All if I do my part. I have not done any load development in this caliber. Don't need to. Granted, all these rifles are Finn which means they proved their accuracy before they were issued....chris3

My M-28 shoots better than I can. Most Finn Mosins shoot better than most shooters are capable of.

I think the Finns squeezed about as much accuracy as it's possible to squeeze from the Mosins. The M28 and M28-30 are about the ultimate military Mosin. Their post-war match rifles are about the ultimate range Mosin.

Taking a bargain bin 91/30 and making it as accurate as possible is an interesting challenge, but usually comes up against the problems of the pencil barrel and inferior stock fit. The trick is to tune the barrel tension and bed the receiver. Even then the barrel is going to be inherently limiting with that design.

I had a 32 mosin that got 1" groups with czech practice ammo (the 49 grain doohickies). It got 1.5 with irons using russian surplus. I was thinking with a little work I could have made that thing a sub MOA in its original military setup
