How much does it cost to re-nickel a revolver?

I know prices vary by region but I just want some ball park number to see if it is worth it. Is blueing much cheaper? I am thinking about re nickeling a S&W M&P 1905 4th change revovler that I recently bought for $99.

That gun looks familiar, did you buy it off Gunbroker? I remember seeing it there.

Yep! I bought it last week and I am waiting for it to arrive. That is the seller's pic, not mine. It looks like it may need a new finish but if it is tight and checks out, I think it may be worth it as long as the refinish doesn't cost more than the gun!

Refinishing, even in the original type of finish, destroys any collectors value it might have. So, if you must refinish the revolver, you can look at other options such has NP3 or hard chroming.

What I should have asked is, what type of finish is the cheepest? I don't want it blued, I was thinking some kind of hard crome, nickel, etc. There aren't any pits on the gun but some of the original nickel is worn off. I know it is looked down on to do this to an old gun but there are enough M&Ps out there that I don't feel too guilty.

Firestar, if re-nickeling is too much of a hassle for you or your budget...

Plating shops can deplate the gun (Actually, a reverse of the plating process), leaving it in the original bare metal, and then you can go with bluing, parkerizing, etc.

Lots of 1905 Hand Ejector 5-screw guns out there, don't feel bad about fixing it up. I bought one for $25.00, and used the frame and lockwork for this abomination:
