In southern Missouri, parts of which are many times poorer than inercity STL, poaching is pretty common as a food source.... I hear that deer are shot out in some areas, which is weird considering Northern Mo, (where I hunt), has tons of deer, and little poaching.
The Ozarks are beautiful, but now that the lumber and lead industry is gone (1930's?), there are not many opportunities. Average Income is $12,000-$14,000 in a lot of those areas, which is WAY below a livable existence.
