I've been loading mostly 9mm and 357 mag so the load data for bullet profiles is plentiful but I've started 10mm and can't find info on flat point cast. Specifically concerned with COAL.

I've been having trouble getting them to chamber at the min of 1.250 for FMJ. And the bullets are flat point but longer than FMJ which means setting them at 1.250 puts the bullet deeper in the case. Both the FMJ and FP are 180 gr bullets.

How do you guys deal with different profiles?

Use the plunk test in the barrel for OAL.
Dummy round. Start long. Bump down till it passes then shorten .005" more and load them.

I've always used the plunk test when running 9mm but I have a 10mm aftermarket barrel that will not pass the plunk test with any cast bullets unless I seat the bullet to 1.230 which is way below the 1.260 listed for that weight and profile.

Do a little math and seat it to the same depth. If that OAL won't fit, or won't feed, shorten it until it will, with an appropriate decrease in powder charge.

In most semi-auto handguns, the OAL is determined by what will fit in the magazine. That doesn't apply to all of them, though.

It sounds like your barrel has a short leade, so you'll have to seat your bullets deeper to keep them from contacting the rifling when chambered. RC has suggested getting the Lyman manuals, and I second that motion. There are many loads listed with flat point cast bullets in them. In fact, almost all of the loads listed there are for flat point bullets.

Hope this helps.

True. I pass plunk in the barrel of my 10mm match but they need to be shorter to fit in the magazine.
