And that's a very good point. The times these records get used, it seems it's always in providing collaborating evidence and helping build a case.

Most of us kind of have the idea that the 4473s get used to track down and figure out who did a crime, and that really doesn't happen, for the most part.

When doing private sales, I typically ask to look at a DL or carry permit just to verify state of residence. I don't memorize or record the information. My most recent sale, I didn't even ask as he was a nice enough fellow. In-state plates provided all the CYA I needed on that sale.

Agsalaska;

We obviously have differing philosophies. My point was that, as written, the second allows for no restrictions upon a citizen of this country's right to possess a firearm. I find that refusing to buy a firearm with a bill of sale requirement attached as part of the deal is in the spirit of the second. You apparently don't see the correlation, or don't believe it's relevant. So be it, I simply don't agree with you.

Those 'restrictions on a citizen' are government restrictions. It has nothing to do with private transactions.

By your logic, because the first amendment protects freedom of speech, you can come into my place of business and say whatever you want because of the first amendment.

Neither is sound logic when applied to the constitution.
