I've often wondered if the corkscrew blade would make a good worm to retrieve patches with.

The irony is that they make a small eyeglass screwdriver to fit the corkscrew. No such luck with the clumsy phillips driver. There are also firemaking supplies that attach to the corkscrew, but they seem a bit silly in that size. I am a bit surprised that Victorinox does not include a 1/4" hex driver amidships or near/on an end. The cyber series has a driver, but micro size.

In my opinion the corkscrew is a big waste. Oh, I'm sure it gets used but not for opening wine bottles. There are many other "blades" that would be far more useful.

Like I said , it probably gets used alot just not for opening wine bottles.

In the world of SAKs, I stay away from models with the corkscrew. The Phillips screwdriver is clumsy in that position but infinitely more useful.

I learned what the awl was for after I got into leather working years ago and purchased a sewing awl. It clicked real fast after that.

I am most curious how that little hole in the awl could save your life like it states in the title of the accompanying link.

I always thought it was a good place to run fishing line through.

Better than some flimsy stick, that would probably break, if a fish of any size grabbed your hook.

In 1984 I started working as an Engineer on a research ship. Back then things were a lot more "fun" and, when out to sea for 30 days at a time, folks would get together and beverages were consumed. The Swiss Army knife that I'd been carrying since 1983, (and still do), had the cork screw. This helped me get invited to a few of those get togethers... ;)
So, not a "waste".

The bottle opener was popular too.
:)

Tinkerer is my favorite...or super tinkerer...or Scout...or alox pioneer...but I do really like the Phillips. Iā€™ve used it a lot. A month ago we were clearing a trail and there were some trees about 2ā€ diameter we needed gone. I pulled out my SAK and people laughed. I used the saw and they stopped. Itā€™s no chainsaw but works very well for what it is.
