This is not the first time this *extremely effective* means of gutting most federal class-based firearms laws has been proposed, but this time it is called the "Lawful Purpose & Self Defense Act."

-922r would be mooted (no more need for expensive US-marked equivalent parts)
-AP ammo classification would be mooted (no more worries about M855 or 7N6 or SS190)
-Import bans on 'assault shotguns' and 'assault weapons' would be mooted (SPAS12, Daewoo, Valmet)
-Import bans on 'assault weapon' barrels in parts kits would be mooted ($400 AK kits would only need receivers & semi mods)
-I believe some of the reqs on imported pistols would be mooted (weight, safety features)
-State level AWB laws that directly correlate to federal guidelines would have to be re-written or be mooted

Everybody make sure to click on that congress.gov link; let's see if we can get a third gun rights bill floating in the top-ten most viewed list.

Just an update, it would appear this bill and the Hearing Protection Act are being folded into the same piece of legislation, something called the SHARE act that's dressed up in Fuddish clothing to make it more appealing to the few remaining Fudds that out-of-touch lawmakers still think dominate the nation.

Personally, the 74-page bill seems more difficult to manage than a shorter, clear version, but unfortunately it seems our leaders only move on measures too long to be read/understood anymore. Long and short of it is, cans become Title I firearms (and the ATF is ordered to concoct some specific scheme for determining the serialized component of them, so the remainder become unregulated), "sporting purposes" becomes "lawful purposes" for regulatory interpretation, and the regulators' wings are clipped quite a bit as far as their ability to declare this and that as verbotten (stuff like the Streetsweeper & USAS/SPAS and M855/7N6). I'm pretty sure there'd be no leg to stand on for any kind of import ban enforcement beyond stuff involving actual grenades, too. With the elimination of the >50cal DD designation authority, I'd say even high-caliber non-explosive ammunition like the 14.5x115mm or 12.7mm would become viable.

I read the whole lot. You forgot another critically important thing. The firearm owners protection act gets fixed so it actually works.

Found it, Title 12;
‘‘(d)(1) A person who is deprived of any right, privilege, or immunity secured by this section, section 926B
or 926C, under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation,
custom, or usage of any State or any political subdivision
thereof, may bring an action in any appropriate court
against any other person, including a State or political
subdivision thereof, who causes the person to be subject
to the deprivation, for damages and other appropriate relief.
‘‘(2) The court shall award a plaintiff prevailing in
an action brought under paragraph (1) damages and such
other relief as the court deems appropriate, including a
reasonable attorney’s fee.’’
This appears to be the 'teeth' of the bill, which otherwise seems similar to current FOPA (where suit must be brought against the state itself, if I'm not mistaken, and unfriendly courts must grant standing). Only improvement would be allowing third parties to sue on the person's behalf for a pattern of such behavior.

No more need to employ U.S. workers to make even parts of our guns.

Let's all cheer one more off-shoring in the name of globalism and low prices.

read carefully what it actually says. You will note there is a significant difference in two respects.

one has to do with transporting firearms in other than a motor vehicle, and the other has top do with stopping along the way.

to be fair to the states where this is a problem, they have been pretty scrupulous in applying what the law actually says. It was just horribly written. I doubt the provision to sue under the law will even be needed if the wording is fixed.

So you want to ban surplus and foreign ammo and firearms?

Don't you worry your pretty little subsidized head, there will likely be a tariff war on before long, so all those command-economy jobs will be protected (ironically enough, by producing the exact same needless AK components that ruined the USSR and led to these cheap kits in the first place). You can't possibly be defending the "mah jerbs" angle of 922r...but then again you tried to defend Dudley Brown...

Anyone with a clue about US gun manufacturers would realize that our civilian market is so utterly vast it is drawing in the world's manufacturers like a gravity well; everyone is setting up shop here once they prove out the market demand with an import model. Second, HPA will spawn a massively-distributed multi billion dollar market for silencers overnight, probably single-handedly saving anyone and everyone currently suffering from depressed AR sales. So which is it you care about, "US jerbs," stupid regulations, or ending gun control?

Could you point to where? I copied the whole XII section having to do with transport law, and it's all about consequences for violating travelers' rights. There also a section for bows, which I didn't even realize were subject to regulations (*sigh* "you can have muskets" my foot)

I haven't bought one and probably never will.

I shoot at a private range in Florida. I may be able to decrease the perceived noise level of my firearm, but that does nothing to the guy shooting his hand cannon in the next lane.

That being said, I fully support the bill.

I would like to see this come to fruition. I would love to have a supressor to use when taking my kids out with the rimfire. I would be able to hear them better and know that they can hear me too. I just can't get over the months to year wait for something I've already paid for. The 'fun tax' does not irk me as much as the time line.

Compare it to the existing law and you will see the difference. It is a substantial Improvement.

But will it move? The HPA has sat unmoving for 6 months. What do the experts here see happening with this one, any ideas? I personally see President Trump signing it IF it ever makes it to his desk, but the "meantime" is the mat on the plate - will it move?

My guess is like a lot of this stuff it's really intended as red meat for the true believers. I don't think anybody expects the whole thing will pass this year. personally I'd be surprised if anything significant comes of it this year but you keep working on it and eventually you never know.
